Do we play McCabe ahead of Barlaser?

The problem yesterday was probably 10 of that team were either not 1st team players or not playing in their preferred position. Put 2 or 3 into the “1st team” and in their preferred position and you can judge. Not yesterday. And that’s down to the manager.
Maybe when the team came out they all thought ' I'm in MC reserve team ' and they played with no passion or belief . Why would you if you are deemed not good enough . Not criticising MC , I would have done the same , prove me wrong lads , -no one did. That group need to find a new club for their own sake . And we need to replace them with hunger and desire to wear the shirt.

Barlaser linked up well with McCabe

Barlaser linked up well with Morris

Hackney? the pairing look tired without rotation

I think Barlaser is not as bad as our fans make out. But he is not consistent and after a couple of decent games he has not been good the past few weeks.

I would start McCabe and Hackney if Morris is not fit.

Why do people go down the route of claiming a player is the fans current " boo boy " when people don't deem a player good enough ? I don't think people " boo " Barlaser as such but they simply say he is not good enough which is the case. And Mcgree hasn't been delivering the performances he is capable of lately. Ticket prices keep rising, yet we are still a steady championship team and therefore when people are paying good hard earned money they can give their opinion on players. As long as it's not personal.

Nothing to do with players being the current " boo boys "

Agree. I’d never boo in general, I just think it’s a weird thing for an adult to do.

But he’s proved time and time again he isn’t good enough for us. He doesn’t work in this system, can’t tackle, can’t run, too slow. I’m sure he’ll be decent in a side that could entirely relinquish him of any defensive responsibility, but that’s not us.

And I don’t think the fans would get on McCabe’s back as some have suggested, there’s a different level of tolerance for a young local lad learning the game and a 27 year old Geordie that keeps underperforming.

Also whoever it is that keeps suggesting we play Azaz in the middle… behave. Never seen him even attempt a tackle, let alone win one. Whenever he loses the ball he just jogs and watches his man leave without doing anything to interrupt him. People blame Fry for the flick that cost us against Cardiff, but Azaz was right next to Chambers and did nothing whatsoever. It happens constantly. It would be an absolute disaster.

In response I’ll explain why I posted that he was the current boo boy. I can’t speak for anyone else. The term boo boy is not a literal term, but I guess you knew that? The criticism of Barlaser by a section of fans is imho out of proportion and goes beyond what you describe. He’s an easy target at the moment and the criticism tends not to be constructive.

Since Barlaser signed, we pick up (on average) just shy of 15% less points when he starts (1.44 points per game rounded up) compared to when he doesn't (1.68ppg). He has started 39 out of 89 league games in that time.

Last season, 1.68ppg over 46 games would've comfortably got us into the play-offs...

He has been called dog **** multiple times on here. No heart no fight.

Yeah he is a boo boy

I think if we went to a 3 man midfield, it would be Azaz that would suffer. We'd essentially be moving the no10 back into midfield.
Azaz would probably have to go back out on the left.

------McCabe--Barlaser--Hackney-----

Doak---------------------------------------Azaz

------------------------Lath------------------------

Unless you went 3 at the back and played wing backs. Then you could still play Azaz as a roaming no10. But do we have thr players for wingback?
where have all these UEFA A license coaches all come from

Yes but I'd also give Ajay a run if we sell LL. Harder to get McCormick into the team as we currently have 3 other left backs.

In youth we (should) trust

We need a proper number 6 as back up to Morris. Look at the last 2 goals we’ve conceded, ball is half cleared to the edge of the box and there’s no midfielder anywhere near to put pressure on the goalscorer.

In a 4-2-3-1 you need your midfield to have a 6, an 8 and a 10. Playing 2 8s and a 10 leaves you very open
Bang on. The first one Barlaser HAS to anticipate the danger better, drop 5/10 yards to be able to pick uop any loose balls around the box

He is reactive in defensive situations rather than being proactive.

Totally agree.

There was an angle on the replay yesterday showing the ball out wide with Wieman and Barlaser.

Barlaser could see across and didn’t change his pace to get to the edge of the box. Any defensive minded player makes that movement and would’ve at least been closer to pressure the rebound.
Yes, that CDM position it's all about mentality, you have to love doing the dirty work. Barlaser players it differently, like a deep playmaker (or that's the theory anyway). That can work, but not in our side, we're too exposed without that ball winner.

You don’t think a young lad from the area would be given more leeway than one who isn’t?
A young lad who came through our academy? Or at least joined us at an early age? Yes (for a while, anyway).
Their age and the fact they came through our academy is the key, not their birthplace.
When Jordan Hugill came here as an 26 year old, established Championship player, he wasn't given much leeway. Despite being from Middlesbrough.
