Djed Spence

He is wrong.

As I said earlier, he needs a loan spell playing 90 minutes week in week out.
Exactly.

You look at the FA four corner model (Physical, Technical/Tactical, Psychological, Social) and apply to Djed and it's clear he has great athletic(physical) ability, his technical ability is ok but needs refining, but his tactical decision making is poor. Psychologically and socially he needs to probably grow up a bit. All of his weak areas can improve by playing week in week out and experiencing 90 mins of footy twice a week.

Just not fussed by him at all.

He rarely looks fully motivated on the pitch, and he's not good enough to excuse it.

Often caught out defensively, rarely properly involved in goals in the other box.

I don't mind him, but I'd have a fit Dijksteel or Fisher ahead of him every time.

Exactly people were bending over backwards for Robert's saying he needs a run of games/time etc. When it's one of our own players and particularly young ones its get rid.

Fry and tav have both been given time and are our 2 best players.
He’s not one of our own though in terms of youth product, we signed him from Fulham in 2018 and the season after he was in the team...

I’m not writing him off just don’t think he’s good enough right now, like Fry and Tav he needs to go out on loan.

You'll struggle to see a worse performance than that in a boro shirt this season.

How many more chances is this lad going to get? Consistently poor for a long time now.

The thing I can't get my head around is people on here are still going to defend him even after watching that earlier. "he's still young", "he's a good athelete" etc etc.

He's absolutely nowhere near good enough. There's nothing in his game to suggest he's going to progress anywhere close to the level some people on here predict.
Two years ago they were saying the same about Fry.

he was in the team by accident and had a decent few game, but every dog has his day. Now he needs to really knuckledown and learn. He hasn't shown much improvement, his tackling is slightly better, his marking slightly tighter, but he needs to improve his decision making, when to pass, when to dribble and when to release the ball, he needs to work on his forward movement better, he needs to work on his crossing and beating a man. He is far from a lost cause, but he shouldn't be in the first team right now.

He was in the team by accident???

I think now is the perfect time for him to be in the team with nothing to play for. i would play him every game and see if we can get something out of him if not maybe look at the loan but i still think he is best placed here with warnock.

Under woodgate he was seen as a breath of fresh air. People clamouring for him to be played and when he was dropped, people weren't happy at all.
He been asked to play further forward he needs time to adjust to that, i dont think it helps the lack of quality we have in the middle. It really leaves the 2 wide men with so much to do! This seems to suit bola who has good close control and short passing. This doesn't suit spences style for me, which isnt his fault.

Dijksteel is our first choice right back, and should be played consistently as such.

Especially when we've actually spent millions signing him.

Exactly and he thinks he's the finished article.

Needs to play every week, 90 minutes, it ain't working whatever he's doing at the moment. A loan spell next season will probably do wonders for him. His agent will probably try organise a move away permanently.
He's simply not good enough at the moment and offers us very little. Fisher is streets ahead of him.
How do you know he thinks he's the finished article? Has he told you that. Young players often start well then fall back when the knocks to confidence, insecurities, responsibilities kick in. Its how he handles it that counts. Tavernier regressed after a good start and now he's bounced back to look like a real player. I admit he looks terrible at the moment though.

He’s not exactly rich for players at the back though is he. The amount of mid week games we’ve had. He’ll always give players a chance. I never said he didn’t fancy him, I said he doesn’t like his attitude on the training ground.

Spence has collected the most fines for poor attitude I'm reliably informed.

Spence reminds me of Traore who has swung between brilliant to awful then brilliant and presently not very good. Both are still young, especially Spence and hammering his confidence will never bring the best out of him.

Statements like worst performance in a Boro shirt are just daft.

Why should we stick with an out of form player who hasn’t really had a good game all season? Why should he get a spot ahead of anyone else? Because he had a couple good games last season? There’s no witch-hunt here with this, the lad just doesn’t deserve a place in the team.

Probably for the reasons I stated above.
1.Nothing to play for
2.Giving him a period of games in a position that's new to him.

If we give up on every player who has long periods out of form we wouldnt have any players.

We have a better player on a longer contract than him, who we actually paid money for, that needs to be cemented in that position.

Nothing to play for? That’s a bit glass half empty isn’t it.

Like TeaCider says, we have a player, actually two now, who are better in that role already who we signed more recently. Why annoy two better players at the expense of Spence?

Which two players? U mentioned dijksteel earlier they dont play in the same position. Spence either plays right wing back or right wing high up the pitch.

Dijksteel plays rcb or right back.

I'm not saying hes good enough to hold down a place long term just think it's a good opportunity to see if hes worth keeping or loaning out.

He was in the team by accident???
yes, we had injuries and a small squad. It wasn't a planned progression where he was expected to be in the first team squad last year. Sometimes these accidents happen, ie when Downing accidentally made it into our first team at 17, sometimes they don't.

I feel Spence and Coulson have real potential to be very good players in the right environment. I think our current approach and style of play plus NW style of management doesn't suit them.

That's my best guess as I can't explain there otherwise what has happened.

We know what Djed is capable of and what his strengths and weaknesses are. We know he is unlikely to gain teh experience in 10 games to fix that.

You can only play a couple of young players to test them out, I'd look at Conner Malley, Isaac Fletcher, Hayden Hackney, and Josh Coburn in the final 10 games, see if any of them can step up.

Where did Dijksteel start against Swansea? He’s played there more than once this season as a RWB and has actually been decent. The other player is Fisher, who Warnock brought in to replace Spence.
