He's a young lad learning the game, if Warnock didn't fancy him then he'd be nowhere close to the first team.

He’s not exactly rich for players at the back though is he. The amount of mid week games we’ve had. He’ll always give players a chance. I never said he didn’t fancy him, I said he doesn’t like his attitude on the training ground.

I know what you're saying but Warnock doesn't suffer fools. If there was a problem then he wouldn't be involved.

Aye fair point. Only what I was told, but he also does have a little too much swagger at times for me. For a young kid. I hope he improves, if he knuckles down I’m sure he will. One thing about him, he’s athletic and has a bit of pace. But needs to improve his distribution massively

I know what you mean. He'll come good though, I'm sure he will.
 
He's still young and maybe he will make it, but he's a long way from where he needs to be. I think he will go out on loan to League One next year. He needs games to learn how to use his physical talents well.
 
I think plenty of people base an opinion due to social media talk about his exit from Fulham (training / attitude). I'm not sure if any of that was true as young lads get bombed out of clubs every year.

He's alright as an actual wingback. He's totally out of his depth in a 4 as an actual RB. He just seems to run with his head down with no awareness as to what's going on around him.

He's young and probably could do with a loan. We've already brought in one RB and I thinks that pretty telling.

I'm not sure we could really cash in. Who's going to pay a few quid? You'd have said him and Coulson were going to be 'gems' last season. They may still be but im not convinced the gaffer fancies either (not very good actually defending).
 
He's 20. He was pretty poor yesterday but I thought he did okay at Coventry on Tuesday. You can tell he has a habit of switching off but, again, he's 20. Look at Dael Fry. He was excellent when he broke through, dropped off a bit, came back again, had a poor season last year and now he's very good again. He's matured. I don't think Warnock would be picking Spence and bringing him off the bench so much if his attitude was as bad as some seem to think it is. He doesn't really pick Coulson any more does he, not since he gave that penalty away against Norwich.

Also, with Spence, people need to remember where we picked him up from - he was released by Fulham and Boro took a punt on him. He's actually given us some good stuff for what he'll have cost us. He's had just over 50 appearances. I think people expect too much really.

Good post viv, I'm not a massive fan of Spence but I think people are quite harsh on him. At times yesterday he seemed to have 2 and 3 players crowding him out. Warnock could have easily brought Fisher, marv or kebano on yesterday but chose spence.

This swagger talk, it's the same rubbish as Tav got a few years back about him being cocky and having a bad atitude when in reality know one really knows these lads.
 
Give him time, how many onn here wrote off Bola, Browne, Dijksteel? the worry is that there does not seem to be much improvement from him, but he is in and out of the team in different roles which does not help.
I am sure Warnock will handle him regards subbing the sub, better to do that in trying to change things than leave things as they were.
For me I would be drilling into Spence the basics, his stepovers are an embarressment as he often loses control of the ball and the opportunity to pass. If he does not take coaching on-board he will be out of the club.
 
He's a young lad , learning the game , and making some mistakes / wrong decisions , but come on , he's 20 and has the attributes to improve .
Give him some slack .
I'm sure if he got some one to one from a winger he would improve . Same with Coulson , get them doing the basics of a winger , use their pace , and concentrate on the final ball . Practice , practice , practice .

There was two occasions on Saturday were he was surrounded by three players and not one Boro player came to give assistance or gave him options for a pass. I just don't understand the grief he is getting. Prior to this season he had only started 10 league games for us. He still has a lot to learn but give him chance. The odd times Coulson has had game time this season he has been no more effective. Mendes-Laing(yesterdays lay back for Bola apart) has done nothing so far. Roberts came and went and was a total waste of space but none get the grief this lad gets.

Exactly people were bending over backwards for Robert's saying he needs a run of games/time etc. When it's one of our own players and particularly young ones its get rid.

Fry and tav have both been given time and are our 2 best players.
 
Good to see posters defending him after the usual suspects gave their tirade at the start of this thread!

He's absolutely nowhere near good enough. There's nothing in his game to suggest he's going to progress anywhere close to the level some people on here predict.
