Disappointed at our lack of signings pre season

After a clear out was announced I was hoping we would see a big influx of players for us to START the season. Sadly, this hasn’t materialised. We’ve one signing- who looks crocked before kicking a ball in anger. A one dimensional striker whose main attribute is his size. A keeper largely unproven and tested. A utility defender who could turn out to be anything and Crooks- I feel the best of our signings.

Creating and scoring goals really is will be our achilles heal. I don’t see the quality needed in both areas. I hope when we finally announce our Argentina midfielder that will solve one issue to a large extent. Tav does look very injury prone which is a great shame.

I sincerely hope we get in another 5 or so - presently we have neither the quality in all areas and numerically lacking the numbers needed for a gruelling 46 game league season.

He's right though!

Throw in Fisher who's out for the season and a few others who seem a bit injury prone and the squad is wafer thin.

But we don't need to start the season with enough players for a gruelling 46 games.
The window is still open for a while after Sunday and then we can also reinforce in January.

Could not disagree more. If, has been cited, we want to mount a genuine promotion challenge we need to get players in ASAP so a pattern of play and also for players to familiarise themselves with team mates can be established. The squad overhaul makes this even more pertinent. January transfer window? We have not been universally successful with this window have we?

Got to agree with Rofesleg here.

If we can sign Payero + 1 more (ideally a winger or if not a striker) before the end of the transfer window I’d be satisfied.

If we can sign Payero + 2 more (winger and striker) before the end of the transfer window I’d be delighted.

If we manage to sign anymore than that I’d be absolutely ecstatic.

Aye that's right. Bring in any old *****. Pile em high. Doesn't matter if they're any good or not. Just get em in quick. Offers from other clubs? No good for me mate. If you're not at the barbeque you don't get in the team.
Where has anyone said that? Only you! Can’t see anyone advocating signing just any old player. One thing you can guarantee if desperation sets in that scenario could well be played out!

Starting Left sided center back
who could also cover for Bola should have been a priority
Never addressed this problem.
Along with 3 strikers as well of course

Even if we get the players in time its going to be at least September before they are up to speed with the squad. As it stands this squad is way worse than the one that finished last season

You don't seem to understand that to get the players you want in, you may have to wait. You may be in competition with other clubs. You may have players that want to wait to see what other offers materialise. And clubs that are waiting on other transfers before selling. And so if you want players in quick there is likely to be a compromise in quality.

I would have thought this was obvious.

I'm fairly sure we'll get the required numbers in before the end of the window but think we'll clearly fall short on the quality required. Top 2 is completely out of reach, we'll do unbelievably well to get into the playoffs, slight improvement on last season's finish would be a good result in my book.

I understand the situation perfectly. We unfortunately are not the number one choice for a lot of players. We need a long list of targets to counter this. If we do have such a list it isn’t materialising.
I do tire of the feeble attempts to justify why we are where we are. We knew numerically we needed lots of bodies in when the last season concluded - and we haven’t managed it.

The loan market - which is where some are pinning their hopes- will be more competitive than ever. And that could well be a problem for us

When Karanka took us into the play-offs he had to wait until the end of August for Bamford, Clayton and Vossen. Sometimes you just need to be patient until the deals can be completed.

Warnock has already added five seniors. Payero is apparently done and dusted so there’s another. Bamba and Paterson will probably get a deal for the season. That’s eight, with the club actively looking for more, so where do we draw the line here? 10? 11? A dozen? Ship Spence out and spend the money on the 14, 15th signings? It’s mad.

22 seniors with a strong youth set up should be enough for any club.

But it could work out well for us as well. Just for the sake of balance.
