Dieng, Coulson, Silvera

Coulson although did nothing wrong defensively offered nothing going forward. We were completely devoid of width today because of the fullbacks

Paddy offered a fair bit going forward, he put in a few very decent crosses and linked with forss perfectly adequately.

I think Paddy gets too much stick, I know he was at fault for the goal but as a 3rd choice stand in at RB I think he did well.

I am sure 2 years after he leaves we'll be saying stuff like, 'if only we had a macnair to plug that gap', or 'remember how mcnair used to look to play forward from defence'.

Don't think anyone deserved an 8 or even a 4. Everyone 5 and 6s. Hackney probably our best player but it was primarily his fault for the goal. Coulson very light weight but did get a lot of important foot ins. Defensively not amazing but probably better than Giles. Nowhere near the quality of Giles attacking wise but at this level who is. He is lightning quick over 5 or 10 yards we can find a way to use him surely.

We’ll be saying 2 years from now “ remember when McMare would have had a howler and we’d concede a goal at a vital time”

Coulson is no where near, Dieng had a solid debut, Silvera showed flashes in a cameo from the bench. Put Smith/Howson/Akpom into that team, buy a decent left back and we will do ok. Bring in a Prem striker and high energy midfielder on loan as well and we will challenge.

I think 8/10 is a bit generous for Rogers. Tried his best but dunno, not an 8 for me personally.

Rogers was busy, but he looked what he is, an attacking midfielder, filling in up front. No instinct to get in the box and get in front of the defenders. A few crosses across the box yielded nothing, or at best a corner as there was no one in there. It's not his fault and I think he'll be an asset once he's playing a little deeper with a centre forward in front of him.

Dieng 7/10. Solid, composed
Silvera 8/10 a real danger man
Rogers 8/10 great hold up play and passing, didn’t get the ball numerous times when he made his run
Coulson 5/10, too weak, loses concentration too often
8/10 for Rodgers can only come from the person so committed to defending Aaron Connolly's performances.

He wasn't awful but he's clearly not a striker and he didn't ever look like scoring. No way that deserves an 8. 6.5 is about right but he was nowhere near the worst player and I don't blame him for not being good enough as a striker because he isn't one.

We didn't have any player anywhere near an 8 today. Silvera was bright when he came on but again not enough to warrant an 8. It's good to see a player giving it a go but he didn't really get anywhere with it. Not enough time to get an 8.

Couldnt disagree more we were incredibly narrow on both flanks. Paddys calamitous challenge cost us the match. Hes an expensive liability and poor in every position we wouldn't miss him for a minute

Wtf has Connolly got to do with this? Play the ball not the man.

He created opportunities for other players, showed excellent technical ability, power, payed the ball off well 2 or 3 times for other players who flubbed it.

You say he didn’t look like scoring, how many times did someone lay him in or put a cross into the box instead of the opposite side of the field. Haaland wouldn’t have scored with that service today.

I’ll judge this 20 year old for for being a striker over a number of games based on evidence against different types of teams with a balanced Boro team, I’m not writing off the goalscoring ability of a kid on 1 game or a handful of games for a terrible Blackpool. That’s how people wrote Chuba off, snap judgements

He did though he overplayed it a couple of times and lost it and they attacked the space behind him, he was also slow to closing a couple of crosses down and got brushed off the ball a couple of times. They targeted our fullbacks because they aren’t champo quality full backs

I'm not writing him off completely. Not a chance he's getting an 8/10 for today's performance though.

The Connolly comment was because you regularly made a point of how good he was for all the things that didn't involve actually kicking the ball like closing down and making runs and this is the same situation. You are giving Morgan way more credit than he deserves because he didn't actually do anything. Haaland could have done the exact same thing for us today and he wouldn't get an 8 either.

No it isn't. The Connolly comment was you playing me as a person, rather than the comment I made.

If he missed chances today you could have a point, he had one half chance, hit the target and made their keeper save with his legs. The team didn't create for him, he played well, was brave, looked for the ball, closed down, held the ball up, attacted defenders and layed it off, he even layed it off nicely for Crooks and Forss to get shots away. It was a very promising start. If we can get other players closer to him, and playing with their heads up looking for his runs, which were there, then he'll do fine and score goals. He's still very young, and still learning but typical of some 'fans' they want to dig him out straight away, not give any balanced good and bad opinions.

Newy Jnr just give me the lowdown. Said it was like a pre season game. Dieng was mint, Coulson was quite good.. we were better when Howson came on even tho they scored.

Morgan a bit meh and we defo need a top striker.

Happy to see Akpom on the bench.. but should have played if he was fit.

I’m hoping (the optimist in me is) that the calibre of player we will be looking at won’t be available until close to deadline day due to the premier league teams getting their business sorted.

So wether we like it or not we are just going to have to make do with what we have until then and hope we don’t lose too much ground on the top 2.

I was surprised millwall got joe bryan from fulham. I wonder if he was one of left backs we missed our on due to pursuing giles?
