Derby - up a creek without a paddle

Reap what you sow I'm afraid.

It's not the fans fault true, but surely they must have seen that there was something very off with their financial dealings.
You would think so and some fans are sensible about it. The general consensus is one of delusion that the EFL want to make an example of Derby and they've done nothing wrong. But if they punish Derby then everyone else will behave. It is of course nonsense, this isn't some punitive action by the EFL. Any harshness is simply because of Derby's failure to accept their punishment.

I’ve not been keeping up with their case recently. Is there still more punishment to come from the EFL yet? I saw that they weren’t immediately getting a point deduction, unfortunately.

I wouldn't they hate us, hate our chairman.

I've never forgiven them for being 3-0 down at Pride Park then when we put the ball out for an injury, they didn't throw it back and scored. They then spent 20 mins kicking our players injured another player and got a last minute equaliser.....horrible club.
There'll be bitter fans elsewhere bearing similar grudges to us. You can't paint all supporters of a club with the same brush.

They've been badly managed as a club, as we were in the early 80s. We were lucky that when we had to rely on the kids and a sprinkling of older players they turned out to be future internationals under the guidance of a pair of tough, well organised coaches.

Well possibly. They have to resubmit their accounts for the 3 years where they submitted accounts that failed to meet accounting standards (they were 'creative' with player amortisations). This could put them at severe risk of FFP breaches for maybe 3 or more separate occasions. Now the Derby messageboards are claiming that the accountants have 'found' 30m to put in the accounts to avoid this, but that doesn't sound realistic. If the accounts are for 17, 18 and 19, then FFP windows 15-17, 16-18, 17-19, 18-20, and 19-21 could all fail FFP, each potentially having a 12 point deduction. At worst it could be certain relegation. But there have been so many twists and turns in this that I'm waiting to read the final news before laughing at them.

On top of this HMRC debt (not pertaining to late payments, so likely VAT and/or PAYE and/or NIC) and not paying transfer fees due are going to come with continued penalty.

It's hard to think those running the club deserve it. However, I'm sure there's plenty of genuine Derby fans who can't believe what's been going on.

I have a really good mate who lives in Derbyshire and it's a beautiful area and the people seem decent too.

I'm sure there are, the internet just gives the loud stupid conspiracy theorist ones the biggest platform

Yep hard to out a date in it really , but if they can’t put a team together The end is nigh . They be lucky to start next season in any league nevermind the 1st division.

I think they are too much of a grand old club to completely go pop, at least I hope so, but they could take 5-10 years to recover from the damage Mel has inflicted. Worst case, if thy do go bust, they will reform further down the pyramid and have a wild years long journey to get back from a non-league phoenix club, but I hope it doesn't come to that.
