Definitive Christmas telly thread

I find board games more antisocial than having the telly on, telly is just background with people chatting over it.

Board games can drag on and really take over the day, especially if you have some competitive people round.
You're playing the wrong board game (especially if it's Monopoly)

Have a look at some of these

Herd Mentality
Azul
Pandemic
Takenoko
Splendor

Board games are banned in our house....

With us already being in a tinder box what with Russia, Ukraine, Syria and all manner of other conflicts.... one game of Monopoly in our house could quite easily be the spark that sets off WW3

I was talking monopoly really, it's what people in my extended family want to play but it's not unknown for the board or the stuff on the board to go sailing across the room.

Tense occasions.

Its a shidt game, takes far too long, easy to cheat and not many laughs.

Honestly buy a copy of Herd Mentality. Its a simple game. A single word is turned up on a card and everyone writes down a word they associate with it. So the word might be "purple" so answers might be "rain", "lilac", "lavender" or "Prince" if you match with the most people (the herd) you get a little cow if you are the only one with "lilac" (for example) you get the big pink cow. The holder of the big pink cow cannot win and can only pass it on when someone else gets a unique answer. First one to so many cows wins. That's basically the rules. It's quick to play and kids aren't disadvantaged it gets so many laughs that no one is competitive.

Monopoly gives boardgames a bad name.

Monopoly is sheeiyte as are most dice-based board games. Whoever gets the 3 oranges properties usually wins.

Personal fave non-dice board games are Chinatown, Ra (earlier version of Priests of Ra) and Splendour

Don't really watch much telly aside from "Gone Fishing".
But put Christmas on the Farm (Dec 17th I think) on your lists. It's generally good fun telly, but there are a couple of great little films from Finland ... one beautiful. One beautiful and funny.

I used to like the Royal Institution Christmas lectures, and Champion the Wonder Horse from the Radio Times and the TV Times that we only ever bought at Christmas.

Gone Fishing, Gavin and Stacey, All Creatures, It’s A Wonderful Life and guilty pleasures The Holiday (Jack Black is brilliant), Love Actually and Last Christmas (I know!😂). Looking forward to watching Black Doves, Strike and Squid Game

Does anyone watch television on Christmas Day?

I can understand people watching a film in the evening, but not during the daytime unless they are alone and then that becomes a different scenario.
Here in Oz it's all about being outside on the big day. We head down the beach and set up for the day...

TV doesn't go on until later in the evening to watch a film with the wife after all the chubts have gone.

Some years back, my brothers mate sent him a video of them having a BBQ on Christmas day in shorts and T-Shirts when I was baltic here. A week later it snowed here and my brother got the BBQ out and got his wife to video him grilling steaks and sausage whilst dressed in a parker and stating 'This is the weather to have BBQ in.' 🤣 🤣 🤣

Monopoly Deal, it’s the future 😁

Wallace and Grommit was superb, watched it twice now. The detail and film references (e.g. the scanner detecting the gnomes is a nod to Aliens) are so much fun, the villainous penguin stroking the seal pup. Just brilliant.
