David McGoldrick....?

Being better than last season's strikers isn't enough. That should be the minimum you'd expect of any signing. Our forwards were dreadful. We should be signing players significantly better than the ones we had, which should be very easy to do, and I don't think McGoldrick is an upgrade.
I do....
Sporar Connelly and Balogun were completely ineffective !

If we sign him then, I‘m not bothered how old he is, who he’s played for, how tall he is, etc etc. As long as he can score goals, or create them then, he will be an improvement on last season. (y)

About the same as Sporar then....and he didn't take the Pens...
McGoldrick is a good player, seen him several times and always impressed....
And Sporar wasn't good enough either.

He's a little old now for a forward is McGoldrick, however the new way seems not to build but to change often so he might be worth a few months on a low wage

He’s done and so is Sharpe. Billy was a very tidy striker, McGoldrock not a bad player.
But both are finished.
We have to do better.

Clever player with a bit of guile...scored 15 when Sheff Utd were promoted. Wilder knows him...Knows the league and can hold the ball up something that we were sadly missing up front last season....
Don't understand the negativity ?
Who do yoos lot think we should sign Mo Salah ?
Get in the real world...
Thanks 👍
There’s absolutely no inbetween Salah and McGoldrick then, it’s got to be either or!

Such as ??
You keep on doing this.
McGoldrick is injured, hasn't played since the start of December and is 35 in November this year. Sheff Utd massively improved when he didn't play since December.
Billy will be 37 next season.

As a poster put above, it is not McGoldrick or De Bruyne, nor is it Sharp or Salah.
There are lots of players in between.
It is not my job to identify who, nor is it yours with your silly notebook.

I'd be excited by Gyokeres as the big signing - goals and assists.
I like the likely cheaper Riis at Preston - goals and assists.
I think 28 year old Joao would be a lot better bet for us up front as one cheap recruit given his contract status and Reading's situation. He also scores and assists.
I think Roofe would be a good recruit in the Championship and would come.
There will be a load of young players to borrow from PL sides.
There will be loads of players across European leagues that will be available.

I still really like Watmore and think Coburn has great promise but will go out on loan in the Championship/ top of League One.
Buy Gyokeres, Riis and Joao and we would have the goals to win the league. Spence fee plus Morris compensation could fund this.

Getting the better forward players is key. Spend the bulk of the available funds here.
Trading McNair and Ikpeazu might provide the funds to cleverly complete the first team. A little further investment from Gibson and intelligent loans could then get us the GK, DCM, LCB and LWB we will also need.

New GK
Jones, Dijksteel, Fry, New LCB, New LWB
Crooks, New DCM, Payero
Gyokeres, Riis

Subs Hemming, Bola, Howson, Tavernier, McGree, Joao, Watmore. A strong bench that could all be first teamers at any point.
Backed by Brynn/James, Wood, Fisher, Boyd-Munce, Gibson and the Academy, making a full squad.
Loaned out Coburn, Kavanagh

I'm assuming are not here in August, or do not feature.

So, that would be the return of 4 loanees (Siliki, Sporar, Connolly and Balogun), the release of 2 old stagers (Bamba and Peltier), sale of 1 loaned out (Spence) and 1 first teamer (McNair)
I think we could modestly sell, release, or loan out without cost to us Lumley, Daniels, Fisher, Hall, Coulson, Olusanya, Ameobi, Ikpeazu, Akpom. I don't expect any of them will still be here in August.
It would mean 7 signings of quality, but the retention of a lot of good players to build on, a fine team and a very strong bench.

Absolute no chance Tav would be on the bench and Payero starting. Come on man

Totally different positions I know, but by releasing Bamba, Taylor & Peltier, I get the feeling Wilder (and/or the club) are trying to reduce the average age of the squad. All three mentioned where good back up players who most of us would probably have kept for another season, but they where shifted on so can't see us going for the likes of McGoldrick or Sharp, who let's be honest, would unlikely to be starters.

Good post kid agree with most of that...BUT
João is injury prone.... Gyokeres is probably going to the Premier League. I don't think we are a massively attractive proposition for many players and we don't suddenly have an open checkbook.Tav won't be on the bench !
Thanks 👍

He'd be on the bench for me, but I accept not for Wilder, or you. I suspect not for Tavernier either and he'd be off. If so, I'd keep McNair then instead of trading him as above.
We have to let McNair, Tavernier or Fry go to get the funds I think we need on top of the Spence and Morris money. I'd trade McNair first.

I don't understand why you have a problem with me thinking Tavernier is not great?
I don't have one with you thinking he is.

Because he’s our best midfielder by a Mile aswell.

I'm 60 in a couple of weeks so loving the "kid" bit:)

I'd like Tav to stay myself. The issue is, he's 23 now (still youngish I know) but never really nailed down a definite position. It's ok people saying he's our best midfielder etc (not just you Diego), but best midfielders rarely get shifted to a totally different position, i.e left wing back unless absolutely necessary. We need to find his best position quick and he needs to make it his own.

His best positions is no 8 where he played majority of games. If we sign a left wing back fit enough and good enough to last a season he won’t need to be moved. He’s so much better than McGree and Payero and needs to start alongside Crooks and Howson or a new holding centre mid. If he leaves then so be it but until then he needs to start for us and we would be absolutely stupid to put him on the bench. Thankfully Wilder isn’t.
