Daniel Sturridge pundit for Sky Sports

I really like him.
I think he's been alright when he was on last season now and then, just found him to be very annoying and cringeworthy yesterday. It became the Sturridge show.

Peter Drury is a good addition to the commentary though, much better to listen to than Tyler.

No they didn't and he isn't.
Richards is like Flintoff; a buffoon, brim full of himself.

As Roy said "Where did it all go wrong"
I’m a listener of FiveLive’s Monday Night Club and Richards has spoilt it since taking over from Ian Wright, who was far better and actually did his research - which meant when they have a joke about, a bit of ‘bantz’, you forgive it if you’re not really into it because they’re bringing stuff worth hearing. But Micah Richards is a bit of a pest IMO.

Each to their own but he’s not really for me.

Already got Micah Richards being a bit of a clown. Don't need another one.

Maybe I'm a bit old school with my punditry but I would rather pundits analyse a game and highlight teams failing. Criticise teams when they should be criticised. Not clowns on there having a laugh and a joke.

I want to see professional opinions. I want to see pundits challenge managers and challenge each other.

I can see why the like of Keane and Souness might be disliked particularly by the younger generation and maybe their outlook on the game is a bit dated but I don't see younger ex-players having the same passion that they do and quite frankly don't have the same intelligence and knowledge of the game.

I think you watch football for the wrong reasons. It's not a Government Scrutiny Committee, it's a game of football.

I personally didn’t mind Souness. At least when you knew and him Keane were together there was a chance of some box office tv. With Sturridge yesterday felt more like CBeebies. Not sure what he brings

I liked him as a one-off, but I used to like Richards too - I think it's something that can get very old very quickly.

They should just have a guest presenter on every week - Sturridge has done one, it was alright, but now move on to the next ex-footballer.

I prefer to see ex-managers rather than ex-players as pundits. I think they tend to have a better tactical understanding and eye for detail.
Lots of good players don't necessarily have a good tactical knowledge of the game hence why not all good player become good managers/coaches

Just pundits aren’t they? I don’t think I’ve ever been particularly keen to hear any of them speak. I must admit I’m gutted whenever Rio Ferdinand is on, but otherwise none of them really bother me.

The only time I’m genuinely pleased is when Ally McCoist turns up.

They aren't trying to attract people to watch the football. People are already doing that and they've got them with the subscription. They are trying to get people to watch the full programme, before and after the football, because that includes all the adverts. Younger generations are more likely to just watch the football and then turn over.
This just seems like one of those Daily Mail style broad generalisations about "younger people" and what they are and aren't more likely to do. "Younger generations" aren't some singular entity with the same viewing habits. If people want to watch football, the likelihood is that a large proportion of those people will be watching the before, during, and after of the programme anyway.

Couldn't stop cringing at Sturridge. Stuff like that singing, him interviewing Alexander-Arnold and using phrases like 'keep it funky with ya boy'. Lost count of the amount of times I was cringing at him. I remember him being a pundit for the Chelsea/Liverpool game last season and thought he was annoying then. Sky Sports have really bigged him as a 'new signing' to their pundit team, so it's evident he's going to be sticking around too, sadly. I'll just end up watching less of the 'punditry'

Sky Sports pundits/guests have really gone downhill the last few years. I've still got no idea how Clinton Morrison has become of their main guys.

Peter Drury, however, is a superb addition.

I blame all these YouTube channels where absolute loud-mouthed morons have worked out how to use a camera and are raking it in for their hot takes. This is Sky's reaction to that - more bantz.

These things are all cyclical, Neville Carragher and Keane will all get to the same point Keys and Gray did - thinking people only tune in to listen to them, then they'll push it too far and they'll be out the door.

To be fair, Keys and Gray were the definition of clowns. They weren't only clueless, they were horrible misogynistic individuals who needed binning.

Still have no idea how BEIN still have them anchoring their PL slot. Their latest comments in regards to DDG and Onana speaks volumes of how inept they are when discussing football.

Andy Gray was a nightmare for focusing on referees' mistakes. Could spend 15 minutes showing every angle of a penalty or offside decision and criticising. Easy done with about 6 different camera angles and slowed down to a tenth of the actual speed of the game.

I totally agree.

The pre, mid and post match analysis was definitely not what I’d expect. But is this me finding out I’m getting old and out of touch with the youth 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I know I’ve reached some sort of age milestone because I see some hairstyles and clothing trends and they make me speak out in anger 😂😂.

It's all very ticktoc. I have absolutely no idea what direction sky is trying to achieve. I'm presuming it's gaining a new younger audience?

Yet they need to remember that it's not a 12-14 year old that's paying the ridiculous sky bill. It's getting worse by the season.

It's almost unwatchable during halftime and don't get me started on soccer Saturday. I'm fully expecting some people off love Island or Towie to guest present soon 😔

They've stopped me watching the program now, it's bloody awful 😁 Can just about stand the in game commentary etc but that's it.

I only switch sky sports on when the live match kicks off. It goes on mute at halftime when I'm usually doing the washing up, and the moment the final whistle goes, its switched off. I haven't watched any pre-match or after match punditry for the last few seasons tbh. If there was also an option to watch the match without commentators yapping away and just have crowd sounds instead, I'd gladly pay Sky an extra fiver a month. Guess I'm a miserable old t@at these days ;)
Yes, count me in as one of the football only crew. I start to watch/listen bang on the whistle. Mute, switch over, or do something else at half time, and then switch it off at the final whistle.

Sky are always looking for some drama, which is fine when it occurs naturally, not so good when they are trying to create it.

As a consequence of this I had no idea about yesterday, and I can't really bring myself to watch the attached clip.
