They're going into damage limitation, knowing they are in a compromising position, both morally and (potentially) legally.
I suspect the government will seek to react to hate speech, individually, collectively and institutionally and the mainstream media wll be a central plank to that review.
Yes the Mail has read the room and knows it has to back off - for now. They will be back next week attacking people on benefits, trade unions and any other group they think it is safe to persecute.
