Cricket great test for stokes new look England - India

Just watching Stokes here - he's contributed, but not had to carry the whole team the way Root did as skipper. Looks delighted - he must think he's won the lottery.
 
Jonny Bairstow was getting stick from some quarters at the start of the summer. Now has hit 4 centuries in his last 5 innings and 71 not out in the other. Not sure Ive ever seen cricket played like this.
 
I went out for a little walk as I've been stuck inside since my op on Sunday, expected to get back and watch us knock off the last 50 or so.
Please let us keep this form for the Ashes and spank the Aussies in a proper manner 👍

Wasn’t on for this test (can’t think why 🤭) and believe me you are missing a treat by not listening to it due to Vaughan doing 10 minutes every hour or so.
 
Absolutely class.....

A terrific 4-5 weeks of test cricket and fingers up to those around the world who don't like it. Although it's never really been on decline here (in terms of crowds).

I'm loving the summer of cricket. Its definitely keeping me entertained during this short pre season. Next up the T20 series starting on Thursday with a sprinkling of T20 Blast. The missues is definitely leaving me 😂

Crazy to think he was left out of the ashes squad isn’t it
 
Joe Root, while Captain, averaged a not too shabby 46.44

Before he became Captain he averaged 52.80.

In the four tests since he stopped being Captain he has scored 11, 115*, 176, 3, 5 86*, 31 and 142*. That is 569 runs, 5 dismissals. So he averages 113.8 this summer.

Overall he averages 50.76, but 56.12 when he isn't the skipper.

Root has scored 927 runs (inc 5 centuries) in 2022 at an average of 61.8.


Bairstow's scores in 2022 are

113, 41, 140, 15*, 20, 29, 0, 22, 1, 16, 8, 136, 162, 71*, 106, 114*

That is 994 runs (inc 6 centuries) at an average of 76.46.
 
Wonderful to have a bit a steel in the middle order instead of collapses. The speed we score must be intimidating for sides knowing games can just get away from the opposition. The Aussies were masters at it with the likes of Waugh and pontin. The acid test is how the middle order survives against the likes of Australia or in tests outside of England. No doubt they will come up with a plan to destabilise bairstow root and stokes
 
It's incredible the form of Root & Bairstow.

I also loved the fact Stokes even said he secretly wanted India to post 450 just to see if we could have chased it down. He seemed confident we would have done it too!

And who's to argue with the form of the 2 Yorkshire lads at the minute!

Root batted but carry the team, his captaincy was appalling, the atmosphere in the dressing room must have been dreadful.

Oh, and let's not forget the bowlers and the opening pair in this test.
