Cracking picture of Ayresome park

The Jolson Story was released in 1946.
The man with the Beret and Army Greatcoat would likely be a National Serviceman or a reg.
As an aside. Haven’t seen that film shown for a long time and I guess it won’t be given that Al Jolson was the most famous exponent of "blackface"

This site has started popping up on my feed as recommended to join, had some brilliant pictures of Ayresome Park the last few days but I found this one a bit special.

What a diverse and forward thinking party the Conservatives were after the war. I never thought that Al Jolson would be a supporter of them though!

Its not the main entrance - the main entrance was the North Stand and where are the Gates?

Its an entrance to the Holgate End (West Stand) from the South.

2 shillings to get in is 10p - probably 50 times to get into current money = only £5.

It was Larry Parks playing Jolson wasn’t it, not the man himself ?

Just a long shot but this could have been Boro against Man Utd with a crowd of 37,556 on Jan 18th 1947.
Fenton and Mannion scored our goals unfortunately in a 2-4 defeat.
David Jack was Boro manager and we finished 11th in Div 1.
Incidentally, Man U played their home games at Maine Road as Old Trafford was closed because of bomb damage - bloody terrorists.
