Cost to buy Giles, Archer and Ramsay?

I think all three would be available, even Ramsey who is the youngest. They're clearly talented, but Villa are in the market fir multi million pound players, so it would be difficult for those two to break into the squad and team.

Giles is a bit older and he's the most likely.

Whether we can afford the asking price is another matter.

🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♂️ it's not 1999 you know..
You can atleast double that to even get the talking started.
In 99’ we signed one of the best left backs in the world for £4m

How that lines up with my link to wolves 4th choice left back quarter of a century later isn’t clear

Carrick and Scott will have players in mind and contingencies in place, dependent on where we are at the end of the season. Given the pull of Carrick, Danksy, Woody and Scott - we could be in for some pleasant surprises and an even better squad. (y)

If we're promoted, the loaners will cost PL size xfer fees and wages to sign. And they haven't proved themselves in the PL.

Miss out on promotion , on the other hand, and we might just be able to afford them at a lower price. And they will be proven at Championship level. Every cloud has a silver lining.

I think Wolves will want £10m minimum for Giles unfortunately. They'll look at the season he's had here and will be aware of how keen we are to sign him. They're not going to allow us to have him on the cheap. I'd definitely be happy for us to pay that if we go up but it would be a gamble to still pay it if we don't.

Don't think we have much chance of signing Archer and Ramsey unless we are going to be prepared to make a ridiculous offer. The reason Villa have loaned them to us is the same reason why we've loaned Coburn to Bristol Rovers. I'd imagine Villa regard them as being hot prospects.

We tried to buy archer before loaning him remember and were knocked back. Every week he plays he is adding to that value. Double edged sword

Nice problem to have really.

This time last season we were probably asking how much we had to pay Brighton to take Connolly back.

No chance we get Archer or Ramsey unless we have 50 million to spend.
Expect Giles will be available but 10 million plus, one of the relegated sides will sign him

Pure speculation obviously, but I’m wonder if we could get the trio for £20m, and if we could, would you consider that good business in the current transfer climate?

£5m > Giles
£10m > Archer
£5m > Ramsay

I would say it be a great bit of business given the age of them, and the potential of the lads.

Or even cheaper, an extension of there loans for another year? Bit cheeky maybe!!
The problem is if we're in the championship, that's too much money, but if we go to the premiership we will probably need better to stay up, or to be spending another 30m elsewhere.

I think we could get Giles on loan for another year, then hope to get him the year after, when he only has a year left on his deal.
Archer's still got 4 years left on his deal, so no waiting for that to time out, but if villa stay up, we might get him for <8m
Not even sure if Ramsay has a long contract so we maybe could get him for a couple of m, if he decided to stay.

They're all young and improving though, so I wouldn't be against buying them, if we tied them to long contracts, as if we came down, they would help us get back up, and probably all be better than they are now, a lot better.

I'm not sure we could afford a Giles type player in a 4 though, not in the Prem, we would get destroyed on counterattacks when teams hit the channel whilst Giles has pressed high. This hurts us now, but he's worth it as we get plenty of ball for him to put in crosses, and our strikers are a threat at this level. This may not be the case in the prem though.
We would probably need a new left/ right back who are both better defensively as we would be spending a lot more time without the ball, than with it. No Prem team would be scared of any of those three, so wouldn't need to make any defensive provisions to stop them, they would be making provisions to go after us when they lose the ball though.

There are some crazy valuations of Archer on this thread, for a guy who's never scored in the prem, and only 10 in the Champo. Same for the valuations of others. These type of players can only really be sold to champo teams, and champo teams won't spend that cash unless they're all more proven. None of them went to prem sides, as they're not ready, and they wouldn't be enough to keep lower-level prem sides up. The only thing holding their value is if the parent club thinks they can improve enough, to make their team, but Villa will be aiming higher, they're better than who they've loaned us. Similar to Wolves, they won't have much hope in Giles making their team in a back 4, not when they have Jonny and Hugo Bueno.

I wouldn't be so sure. Young, massive potential and crucially, English. If he carries on at his current progression he'll be catching the eye of the UCL teams to bulk out the squad with home grown players.

Nah there’s no way I don’t think he’s only got a year left on his deal I think and he’s really down the pecking order at Villa and his brother is ahead of him. I think he will be ours for no more than 10 mill if we want him if we get promoted

Well Tav went for around £12m and Spence for around £15m. In both cases there was no bidding war and the players wanted to move, leaving the selling club, us, in a relatively weak position.
Giles is probably valued around the same as Tav; doesn't have the same level of hype as Spence. Obviously Tav was more experienced and clubs tend to spend more on attacking players. So Wolves, if they are willing to sell, will probably set his price around £10m-£15m and see who bites. He has two years left on his contract in June so he will be around his peak value this summer.
Archer. Villa have no need to sell and Archer is in no position to push for an exit. Highly likely to try and loan him to a Premier league club with a January recall clause.
Ramsey. Uncertain when his contract runs to. Not really close to the Villa 1st team so depending on his contract he might be sold if they get a silly money bid but they're more likely to look for a Premier team loan.

With Archer and Ramsey, if they can't get loans Villa might look to sell in January.

We're no longer looking at paying silly money so, if we're in the Championship we can probably wave goodbye to all three. If we're in the Premier league I suspect we can buy Giles and probably loan in Archer.

What’s it going to cost us to bring in another couple of forwards and a left back? At least these guys are low risk compared to bringing in foreign gambles. If we spend less than 60m (if we go up) we’re probably going to be on a wing and a prayer anyway
Ryan Manning LB - free transfer - OOC
Illias Chair - AM - £10m
Victor Gyokeres - CF - £15m
There is options if Villa and Wolves out price the 3 .
The above have more experience and would do for me.

Not sure how long Giles has on his Wolves contract? If it’s short we might get him for £8 million with add on’s if we stay up? Has been an outcast at Wolves for a while now and not sure why we didn’t try and push a permanent deal through already - the obvious snswer being we didn’t have the money?
Similar with Ramsey - entering last year of contract but likely interest from others - hopefully £10m gets that over the line?
Archer is different case however. Highly regarded by Villa fans - perhaps not as much by Emery but can’t see them selling him to anybody at the end of the season.Would love to have him permanent but I think we need to look elsewhere for that role.
The other one of course is Steffan - what do we do there?

Will be interesting if we go in for them at all, as it will give a good indication of our recruitment model going forward.

If we don't go up, a further years loan is the very best we can hope for.

Even if we go up, it might be a prudent starting position? 12 months loan with options if we stay up and fee agreed in advance?

Third option of course, is that we move down the conveyer belt and identify three more loan signings who can brought it to replace those 3, if there's no movement from their parent clubs.

Does anyone know the loan restrictions for the EPL?

Giles;
I reckon £7-9 million is what they'd be after

Archer;
A tough one to gauge, whilst he's excellent I think high goal numbers add more value £9-£15 million

Ramsey;
Bit more under the radar? Depends on output till the end of the season I suppose, £5-£9 million

So somewhere between £22-£33 million-ish probably, depending on where their respective clubs are and their respective form as individuals.

If Archer and Ramsey are on fire till the end of the season, they'll be out of our league to sign you'd think? But realistically, are Villa really going to play them?

If Wolves stay up, it seems clear Giles is surplus to requirements, if they come down and we really want him I'm sure we can offer enough to get him, but whether that is best use of our resources I don't know.
