Conspiricy Theorists

Anyway....biggest hoax of all time, some sky fairy, created everything and will sentence us to an eternity in hell if we don't tell him how great he is, by attending one of his opulent houses, putting our hands together and closing our eyes every Sunday....and of course pay a little money to keep it running.

It makes me feel better, I also believe in Father Christmas. An episode of Brokenwood Mysteries explains brilliantly why. I don't expect you to believe either. Of them.

There's an Adam Curtis documentary where he explains where the Illuminati conspiracy theory came from. It was actually planted in a magazine by two people to demonstrate that conspiracy theories were totally made up and if anything, a means for distracting people from what is right in front of them at times.

Conspiracy theories are just mental if someone really thinks about them. Take September the 11th for example. I cannot believe people seriously think the US Government planned and carried that out just to get to oil in Iraq! Think about it and it's absolutely impossible for them to do that. Think about the why too. Why would the US Government create an elaborate scene involving the murder of 3000 people just to invade a country for oil?

Unfortunately people now monetise this and know that views = ££££, especially if linked to current events. In isolation theories just sound nutty, but link it to things people don't like, such as smart meters, covid vaccinations, lockdowns, council tax etc and you have a winner

This is definitely a huge reason they persist. Some big companies, Fox News for example, know they can make far more money by pandering to their audience than actually reporting the truth. It is essentially entertainment broadcasting fiction masquerading as fact. People lap it up so they continue it.

It's very similar to the super-rich televangelists that America particularly seem to love. Those creepy blokes that insist they are doing God's work when you know for a fact they don't believe any of it. They certainly don't practice what they preach. They've just identified a market and have exploited it. They don't need several private jets each but they insist that God wants them to have them.

Too many people are willing to believe that things are happening for a reason, whether it is God's will or some global secret society, ghosts, aliens etc. It is something else that is causing their problems. Those people will always exist and some unscrupulous person will reinforce their ideas for them and make a killing while doing it.

I agree with what you are saying but implicit in that is a belief that someone or something would have oversight knowledge and would raise the alarm, as I have got older I realise that many things can go unchallenged or ignored because people don't to want rock the boat or put their lives their jobs in harm's way, so I don't have a clue about the above or how many people it would need but I know that it might not be challenged, and also another way of looking at those many conspiracy theories about this incident is that maybe in there is a truthful one which has been buried intentionally amongst the garbage.
That's the argument for the Holocaust.

Can't Get You Out of My Head is the Adam Curtis documentary. Excellent watch, but my head hurt at the end of each film and makes you realise how dumbed down BBC, ITV and Sky docs are these days.

That's the one. I had to stop it at times to let some of the stuff sink in, so definitely appreciate how your head hurt! You're completely correct about dumbing down of the rest as well.

on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the most credible, where would you place popular conspiracy theories?

UFOs - 2/3
JFK - LHO wasn't the shooter - 2
Flat earth - 11
Ghosts - 2/3
Covid came out of a Chinese Lab - 3

Don't hammer me please

In what way,
That's the argument for the Holocaust.
Nope it isn't, you got that wrong, and for the record I definitely believe in the Holocaust, and if anything probably more people died than was recorded or initially estimated and the same for Stalinist USSR and the gulags. You find that people who deny the holecast denied it ever happened, I know 9/11 happened its the reason it did that I can't buy, chances are even if it was not aided by some rogue USA intelligence unit then you still have who actually did it and even then there is an argument that OBL was the fall guy and the real terrorist handlers got away with it.

What is so outlandish about the reasons though? The Trade Centre had already been bombed in the early 90's. The Americans had suffered bombings to their Embassy in Kenya and to one of their Navy vessels before 2001. It happened because the conditions were there to allow it to happen. Agencies weren't talking to each other and if anything competing against each other. That allow key intelligence to be missed and the opportunity to stop the attack before it happened went with that.

That is far more realistic that some bizarre claim of a US Government involved and subsequent massive cover-up.

You are right it was building up the attacks, the bombings on US soil and Embassy's around the world. That is the other strong option for me is complete negligence, the case for who and why 9/11 happened was made out to be clear cut but there is a whole murky pool there which doesn't reflect well on the US intelligence services.

9/11 - The argument I often hear is that aviation fuel doesn’t burn at a high enough temperature to melt steel. Completely ignoring how much it would weaken steel with thousands of tons of material acting upon it. Just mental.

Even the pressure piling during the collapse is proof of detonation apparently.

massive negligence, partly because of the culture. In the 90s Americans jumped on planes like we jump on a bus. It was absolutely no biggie, a weekly occurrence for many people. I experienced it myself living there 97-00. The idea that someone would hijack and crash a plane was inconceivable to most, and the idea that you should go through any form of security to avoid it was culturally unacceptable. any government in the 90s trying to put limitations on airline travel simply wouldn't have gained any traction.

On top of that the culture of, we are america, no one would dare to take us on, was prevalent, an arrogance in the people, and homeland security. They were focused on the war on drugs, on cartel activity, not on small cells of nutjobs with a cause because it seemed ludicrous that someone would try an act of terrorism on that scale.

unfortunately there's people in the US in particular making big money on conspiracy theories, whether it's people selling dodgy medication online to anti-vaxers, or those making TV appearances and selling out big venues. It's all part of the cycle of promotion of these ideas and then the exploitation of those who buy into it.

The latest conspiracy is the American General stuck in Maripor. They don’t seem to believe the photos and him personally denying it on a linked in post that he’s actually at a conference in Turkey.

They are nuts
People think their is an American general in Ukraine?

🤣

American mercs no doubt but no recognised soldiers on official business surely?

My favourite conspiracy theory is the one where people say Finland doesn't exist.
