Conspiracy theorists

MODs Global Operations Security Control Centre - give over!
More likely The Walrus, off the Hoe on Athenaeum Street!
"Global Security" - bouncer on the door on a Satda night.
Still.
It beats Union street......

The so-called 'dodgy dossier' wasn't ever a conspiracy theory. It was a falsified government document, misused to justify a war. That's an entirely different thing.

I don't understand, it was a conspiracy to create falsified intelligence. As in..
A group of people planned to do something in secret manner that was harmful.

Regardless my point was what I made in my previous posts I was just trying to explain the prevalence of conspiracy theories in modern day.

Maybe if as a society we talked more and had honest debate it would help us all.

Was it not a government document that was issued to justify a war? When Spiked magazine doubted the veracity of the document did it not then become a conspiracy theory? I wouldn't say that the document was misused, it was used in the manner intended.

Whilst I'm generally guided by logic and science I do find the whole subject of conspiracy theories endlessly interesting. There's probably a cracking psychology doctorate just waiting to be written on this subject (already has been?)

I do find the rationale of conspiracy theories fascinating - built to fill a void in the "unexplained", politically motivated or events at odds with one's own world view. I think the point re: government above is valid - we have two political machines either side of the pond currently very good at directing/commanding but incredibly poor at given any reasoned thinking for their actions - perhaps conspiracies fill that gap?

There has been quite a lot, but it does link to the way our brains have evolved and function in the world generally.

I'd like to do a leisurely thread on this, or several, and then apply things to some real decisions, including some conspiracy theories.

My favourite conspiracy theory I've found out about recently is all around MK ultra.
Ah you are though the CIA actually did conduct mind control experiments on folks in the 60's. Where do you think LSD came from? All the files are there, although most are heavily redacted which I think fuels some of the wild theories.

The CIA also invented the term 'conspiracy theory' too.

Just last year the subject of UFOs and aliens used to get laughed at on here. Since then the pentagon has confirmed they have UFOs recorded by the jet and just last week we’re talking about having materials from a crash that are ‘not of Earth origin’.

More often than not these days the ‘wacky tin foil hat’ conspiracies are coming out as either plausible or true.

All conspiracy theories are made up by a secret government trying to manipulate our brain waves so they can take over the world. FACT!

I remember a John Oliver episode on conspiracy theories and he used the example of the assassination of Kennedy and the attempted assassination of Reagan as examples.
Due to the outcomes of each it is hypothesised that the conspiracy behind the Kennedy assassination is a result of trying to explain a huge incident in an unexplained world. Had Reagan died then the accepted situation of a random shooter making an attempt on his life might have attracted conspiracy theories in the same way as Kennedy's did.

My conspiracy theory on conspiracy theory’s is the phrase was created to make people who create/follow this stuff come off as nutters. Some of the more crazy stuff (lizard queen etc) is mixed in with it all and that’s what pops into peoples minds when they think of ‘conspiracy theory’s’, therefore virtually discrediting any other theory as crackpot.

It’s pretty clever and doesn’t shock me at all that the CIA created the phrase.

Got any links?

Great episode that was.

Disclosure posted a video the other night predicting that Trump will play the UFO card on October if the polls are still showing a Biden victory.

Trump making first contact with a CGI alien will give democrat supporters heart attacks 😂

There isn't much in there to get excited about.

.. given there's been nothing for more or less 80 years, I would tend to disagree .. there's seemingly a change (noticable over the last couple of years) within the Pentagon to be a little more forthcoming about the subject ..

I received a phone call from my electric provider asking if I wanted a smart meter. I basically said 'I'll get back to you'.

Little did I know that by sticking 'smart meter' in YouTube I got loads videos of people telling they are a tool for the government to track me. That's not the half of it... They all so give off radio waves that damage my brain😂

Jesus some folk need to relax. I just don't want to get an estimate bill 👍

And you're saying that means aliens?

Without looking online, how can a smart meter track you?
