Congrats to the Lionesses ...

It isn't comparable to the men's tournament so the 56 years of hurt thing is nonsense. It is a different competition. England U20s won the World Cup a few years ago and you wouldn't count that.

It's a fantastic achievement for the Lionesses but I don't know why they are insisting on mixing up the stats and records between two different competitions. If the Men's team was really successful we wouldn't dismiss the women's achievement. The women's game and achievements deserve to stand on their own.
It is comparable. They are the best team in Europe. They have beaten Spain. And Germany. Its exactly the same

It's been a great tournament all round and brilliant for young women in this country.

In a world where girls have to watch their drinks in nightclubs, or think twice about walking home from a friend's house, it's great that a group of talented women have achieved football success for themselves and their country.

I thought it was great that having scored the winner Kelly could whip her top off, swing it around her head and run off in total hysteria! Girls should be able to do that and not be judged by anyone. Least of all a bloke.

As for the 50 plus years of hurt stuff. I get people saying that hasn't ended. There's no doubt the men's game is superior. That's biology and genetics for you I suppose. However, just celebrate it and enjoy the moment.

Well said 👍

Judging by comments on here, I can see the Boro Ladies team getting record attendances going forward.....good news for them👍

(They play over in Stockton btw)

I've enjoyed the whole tournament. The football in the main was enjoysble,
skillfull and exciting. The goal that Toone scored this evening was of the highest quality, the pass was of the highest calibre and to take that lob on took guts and a lot of skill. Deserved winners in a competitive euro's.

Being this determined to downplay their achievements because it wasn’t done by a man really isn’t a good look at all

A senior English team has just won a major trophy for the first time in over 50 years, just accept it for what it is, a fantastic achievement and leave it at that

It's wonderful that a bunch of people can't get joy out of a fantastic tournament and superb success for England because it's just women

Racism...bad
Homophobia...bad

Misogyny...all cool there

Ah right. Your supposed to feel the same emotional connection to a sport that literally came on the tv screen within the last couple of years? OK then!

I don't think anyone isn't happy for them. But to jump to 'Misogynistic' is a bit far............ Wally

It is as true as you claiming the opposite. There are more people here congratulating the womens team than deciding its not as worthwhile because a man didn't do it.
The viewing figures for the England mens 2020 semi final were miles ahead of the viewing figures for the England female semi final. I chose the semi finals as the example as the viewing figures for the lionnesses final have not been released yet. The facts that nearly three times more people watched completely dispell your claim 'it is just as impressive to the rest of us'. You're entitled to your opinion but you can't speak for everyone else. Whether you like it or not its not as impressive as the standards are far lower nor is it as popular.

The rest of us 'that watched'. I can't believe I have to make that distinction to you.

How can it not be as impressive, they won the euros, what more could they do?

Hardly a shocker that the mens game which has had billions thrown at it and is accessible to almost everyone will have higher viewing figures than a sport that wasnt even shown on tv a few years ago

I'll refer you to a previous post of mine. Is a male Olympic gold more worthy than a female one?

And, interestingly, I found myself having more of an emotional attachment to this side than say the golden generation of Beckham etc, much as I have with the current England men's team

But the records for Mens and Womens football should be seperate.
Totally agree because they are separate sports. I think its acceptable to say about the years of hurt in the context of England as a country are now footballing champions, regardless of sexuality. That's how I viewed it.

If pointing out that there is a difference between mens and womens football is misogynistic then so be it. However, I don't think it is.
If it was only the description and not the downplaying of the achievement, then you may have had a point.

No of course its not. But the records themselves should be seperate. Hence the 56 years of hurt still stands, as it refers to the mens game.
