Chuba

Is it still the case that a player can sign a pre contract with a foreign club in January to obviously leave on a free when his contract expires in the summer?

Yes, but we have the option for a year which I'm sure we'll exercise if he's not open to signing a new contract.

We have an option of an other year so no real panic. He's been amazing this season.

Yet history over his career suggests he ain't prolific. So I'd be in no rush to throw a 3-4 year deal at him based on a few good months.

That's not being negative or taking away how good he's been. Yet I'm sure his agent will he using this to broker a mega deal. Just activate the extra year and see how it goes. No real panic to make a large financial plunge👍

Would not both parties have to activate the extension? If so, I would bet the agent would rather be seeking a new and improved deal

Yes, he’ll get a new and improved deal that’s for certain because ultimately, we’ve uncovered someone who’s scoring for fun and no 10 million fee so why wouldn’t we reward him !!!!

If there is an option for a year I don't think both parties have to agree otherwise it's fairly pointless to have in their contract. It's usually the case that the club has the say in this regard and activate the clause

Agents will no doubt negotiate wages up where such a clause is inserted

I think we definitely need to see it consistently though like S7 said: the danger is we give him a new contract and next season he gets 4 goals.

On his current form his agent would be trying to wangle a strong contract and he's been great this season and people have used it as a stick to beat former managers with which is weird as majority of fans would have paid for akpom's taxi themselves.

hopefully he can maintain it and both parties can benefit.

Boro having a striker that score me goals feels alien.

If Chuba wants to stay id expect a new contract to be signed. If he doesn't I'd expect the club to activate the extention and listen to offers, get what they can for him. Of course CA might decide to sit tight for another 12 months and leave on a free. Can't see that though, he seems happier than he ever has been on the pitch and I doubt he's taking that for granted. I'll be surprised if he doesn't sign a new deal before end of season.

I don’t think you spend so long in the Arsenal system without being a really good player; and I’ve always been so impressed with Chuba off the pitch. Going to Greece to play and score goals shows a different mentality to most players who are happy to take the money and sit on the bench, and he’s so impressive in interviews. Old head on young shoulders, reminds me of Jude Bellingham.

He’s been brilliant this season. Hard to tell if it’s just a purple patch or he’s finally become the player he was supposed to be, but agree with the above, he might have saved us £10m. Joint top scorer in the Championship in a team that was **** until a month ago doesn’t lie.
