Chuba one season wonder?

Wasn't Assombalonga £15 mil years ago?

Night and day, at least double if he continues or improves his form.

Mind you, he's no Afonso Alves or Lee Dong-Gook

This is perhaps a stupid comparison but in the Leicester title winning season the same was said about Jamie Vardy the following season.

Vardy continued being a very good goal scorer until age started to catch up. Hopefully Akpom has found confidence and keeps it.

It's an interesting one. He's absolutely unplayable at the moment. A joy to watch in this 'new' deeper role.

That said it definitely goes against any other spell he's had in his career. I mean he's 27 so not a kid finding his feet. I imagine the majority will have been as an actual No9. So maybe this is just his position. Although weird nobody noticed it before now.

So im not overly onboard with throwing a new 3-4 improved deal at him. Not just yet anyhow. He's got another year so no real panic. Also just see how he keeps going. A new contract will come if he keeps this form going into next season.

You get forwards in the champo who have one amazing season. In recent years Mcgoldrick / Waghorn and I'd even throw Rudy into that. Just have one cracking season. Yet nothing to suggest they will do it again.
More than happy to offer him a 3-4 year deal!

I'd sooner have him in the Prem than Antonio or Bamford. He still had a lot to do with that header header yesterday and great touch he showed against SheffU. Obviously not first choice pen taker though.

Funnily enough when we signed him a QPR friend of my mine thought he was good at Arsenal.

I was on the front row at QPR away game, after the game he came over and went to a woman with a very young baby girl and kissed her on the cheek. I just assumed that was his kid with his women, maybe if that is the case him having a baby has focused him on what is important and not wasting time.
He's got a slightly older son, he shared a video of the family watching Boro highlights & his son was pointing at the screen & saying "daddy!".

Even for an old cynic, it was quite sweet.

He may not score the same number of goals (especially if we get promoted) and he will go through barren spells but I think his step up is permanent. He seems to have shown signs of clicking in Greece before he signed for us but I think the combination of Warnock playing him as a lone target man and a new kid knocked him back. Must have been hard going back on loan to Greece with a 1 year old child but the mental toughness he showed to force his way back into the team under Wilder is extraordinary.

I suspect he has reached a level he was always capable of but by a long and winding road.

Found it...

Brereton Diaz had a similar change in fortunes last season. He doubled his career goal tally by Xmas last season. He had a year and a half left on his contract then and they didn't tie him down and he's leaving for free in the summer (after his form not getting back to that pre-Xmas form). Hopefully we don't have the same situation with Akpom. He either needs signing up for 3/4 more years or we need to cash in. Preferably the former and his form continues.

Chuba looks physically stronger then when he first game, particularly his upper strength when turning. Sometimes it comes with age and a bit more confidence.

His record (goals per minute) is the second best across the English Premier League and Championship. Remember he missed over 2 months through injury and still very likely to be top Championship scorer this season.

He seems to have taken everything much more seriously, his own fitness and personal coach, etc. He definitely needs a new contract in the summer, regardless of the division we are in. Hopefully he will sign it. He might not be as prolific next season, but will be of equal importance.
