Chuba one season wonder?

It'd partly depend on what the rest of the team are like but he's playing really well as well as scoring goals, so yeah I think he would keep it going. His goal tally hasn't been down to luck. Before the first goal yesterday the whole front 4/5/6 were creating chance after chance, forcing QPR back and into mistakes.

It's an interesting one. He's absolutely unplayable at the moment. A joy to watch in this 'new' deeper role.

That said it definitely goes against any other spell he's had in his career. I mean he's 27 so not a kid finding his feet. I imagine the majority will have been as an actual No9. So maybe this is just his position. Although weird nobody noticed it before now.

So im not overly onboard with throwing a new 3-4 improved deal at him. Not just yet anyhow. He's got another year so no real panic. Also just see how he keeps going. A new contract will come if he keeps this form going into next season.

You get forwards in the champo who have one amazing season. In recent years Mcgoldrick / Waghorn and I'd even throw Rudy into that. Just have one cracking season. Yet nothing to suggest they will do it again.

I worry about this too, remember Daryl Murphys one great season at Ipswich, then nothing afterwards

What I would say is that a striker can have a very good season scoring lots of goals because of circumstances. Then revert back to the mean. Chubba isn't just scoring goals his link up play is superb and has been all season.

Goals aside he has improved massively.

This.

It’s not just his goals, his all around play has been superb.

We might not see the same goals tally in future seasons, or we might, but no reason to think his overall performances will drop.

It's possible, but it's been about far more than goals from him.

He's heavily involved in almost everything good we do.

It's not like he's just been scoring a bunch of scrappy tap-ins.

I suppose the question is whether he can keep the clear drive to prove himself going in to a new season.

I think he almost certainly would if we were promoted.

I think if the transfer window were opening tomorrow, bids would be coming in for him. I wonder what sort of valuation he would have £15m?????

I was on the front row at QPR away game, after the game he came over and went to a woman with a very young baby girl and kissed her on the cheek. I just assumed that was his kid with his women, maybe if that is the case him having a baby has focused him on what is important and not wasting time.

I don't think he will be. He's not just poking them home after 6 yard box pinball and getting lucky. He's close, he's far out, he's at tight angles, running at speed: a great range of goals.

Once you know in your head that you've been banging them in all over, the mental strength will be forged to know that it can continue.

Even if he has two or three seasons of bobbing around a dozen goals, then that's still a significant improvement on most strikers we've endured over the past decade.

I wonder if he will be nurtured and guided any where else- like he has under Michael Carrick?
For £2M hes already paid jhis debt(y)
Out of 56 goals - he`s only scored 19!
[Tongue-in-cheek there] ;)
We are definitely not a one-man team.

Wasn’t Murphy more of a poacher type striker? Players like that often have a great run them can’t replicate it. I can’t see Akpom having that issue, look at the different type of goals he has scored this season. Even if he didn’t score another goal his general play is fantastic

I'd be offering him whatever he wants immediately. We've been looking for a striker this good for years.

It’s normally the opposite

Once striker clicks and gets confidence they normally go on to build rather than regress.

So yes I’d expect a similar season why wouldn’t he.

As others have said strikers can be one season wonders, but it’s his general level of play and intelligence that I can’t see deserting him.

Since the Marseille game when Wilder was basically forced to pick him he hasn’t looked back.

I wouldn’t assume he would sign a new contract, think he is a London lad and like for so many of us his hometown may be a powerful draw. If he keeps playing like he is now next season people will be offering £ 10-15 million for him.
