Chuba Akpom…

It's genuinely one of the most amazing footballer transformations I've ever known. He continues to amaze me game after game. Brilliant footballer.

Why has it taken him this long to show his true ability?
Think he's one of those players who needs a cuddle and for the manager to tell him how good he is, and he's the best.

Sadly at Boro (don't know about Greece) he's had two managers who will tear a strip of you if you don't do EXACTLY what they tell you. This didn't suit him and drained all his confidence.

Carrick is completely different, seen his best role, and filled him to the brim with confidence.

Skill and ability has always been there it's just taken a rookie manager to fully understand how he ticks and how to get the best out of him.

Lazarus didn't even turn things around like Akpom has.......😍

Rookie manager or world class ex player? That might have just as much to do with it...

It ain’t about how hard you can hit! It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!!

That’s how winning is done!!

Great players don't always make great managers.....but Carrick can definitely shake this tag.

He's been judged at Boro purely on his managerial ability......and he's certainly doing alright isn't he? 👍
That's very true, but sometimes it depends what made them such a great player. For me Carrick was always a player with a massive amount of footballing intelligence. Rather than a ridiculous abundance of natural talent he was a player with a deep understanding of how the game worked.

Maybe THOSE are the kind of great players who can take it into management.

Agree with that 👍

I know the op is about Chuba Akpom
Michael Carrick has transformed the whole squad from what it was under Wilder, every single player looks a different player, players smiling and high fiving each other, it’s a completely different squad of players that Wilder had.

I think he had natural talent but was one or the few to have the work ethic and intelligence to go with it. It’s why he was a key player in one of the best teams in the world for so long.

Not utilised well by England due to the fixation with Lampard and Gerrard sadly.
