The one when Kounate headed it about 40 yards from their goal was bizarreNot sure what Allison was doing in that first half. Came out of his box three times with absolutely no reason to do so.

Yes. It is absolute bollox.I don’t get that rule. 4 Liverpool players touch it between Benzema touching it and Benzema putting it in the net but he’s deemed offside?
It's got nothing to do with the keeper, the law relates to 2 players. And Benzima wasn't even ahead of the last outfield player but because he was ahead of the GK he is offside. Who makes up these rules.
You need two players including the goalkeeper to be between you and the goal to be onside. It has been like that forever. And Benzima wasn't even ahead of the last outfield player but because he was ahead of the GK he is offside. Who makes up these rules.
Exactly.Ok disallowed because it wasn't a deliberate pass to benzema from a Liverpool player. Why would it ever be a deliberate pass to an opposition player the rule or interpretation is absolute tosh.
Christ surely nobody needs that explaining! That's always been the rule.
Onside if you're not ahead of two opposition players.
Benzema was only behind one.
It's just rare that the goalkeeper isn't the last player.
Not quite. It doesn't need to include the keeper. It can be 2 outfield players. You need two players including the goalkeeper to be between you and the goal to be onside. It has been like that forever.
It's about being deliberately played. A deflection, by definition isn't deliberate.Ok disallowed because it wasn't a deliberate pass to benzema from a Liverpool player. Why would it ever be a deliberate pass to an opposition player the rule or interpretation is absolute tosh.
There must be a market for a broadcaster that uses qualified coaches as pundits, rather than ex-player geezers with top bants. How can the ex-players working as pundits not know the rules. Appalling.
If someone takes a shot which was going towards goal and it touches two opposition players on the way in, the player taking the shot still gets credited with the goal. It's the same principle. The pass would have reached Benzema, but it deflected off two Liverpool players on the way to him.Last two touches were Liverpool players.
Yes, but I'd say the confusion earlier in the thread stemmed from the fact that there was one outfield player between Benzema and the goal and usually it is one plus the goalie that means a player is onside. Not quite. It doesn't need to include the keeper. It can be 2 outfield players.
That's the problem when you have a right back who can't defend. Will always be a weak spot but not usually highlighted because liverpool have so much of the ball.TT Arnold completely oblivious to the danger.
The interpretation of the rule is spot on, the question is whether it was a pass that was deflected or a tackle which was played into Benzema. If you want Liverpool to win you'll see it the first way, if you want Real to win you'll see it the second way. If you're a neutral, you'll see it as it is - almost impossible to work out either way, and you'll probably feel very sorry for the officials having to make a decision. Similar to the Watmore incident at Old Trafford.
