Ch4…Air Fryers: Are they worth it?

We tend to use it for smaller items as you do not have to warm up the oven before you can start. No waiting for 10 or 20 minutes before you can put the pie or pizza in. The saving is not only in time but also cost in electricity or gas warming the oven.

I wonder what you did with the breast of lamb - we'd automatically go for a navarin which works wonderfully well.

A what?

If you can cook it in an oven then, size permitting, you can cook it in an air fryer but it will be quicker, cook better because of airflow (liners prevent a lot of this benefit), and cost less.

People insist they're a fad but there is very little incentive to use a full size oven if you have one.

I think I'll always keep an oven - on some of the air fryer groups I am in for recipes there's pellet getting new kitchens fitted without one and I think they look very strange, but for the few times a year they come in handy, I'd not want to be without one, for example can't really do a Christmas turkey in an air fryer, and I do bread in big cast iron Dutch oven that wouldn't work in an air fryer at all.

Pizza slices can be done in air fryer but when we do pizzas on the ooni, because it has a 30 min heat up time and 15 min burn off time, we do a ton of pizzas more than we are serving and freeze them, could snap them but not very aesthetically pleasing so oven gets used for those but outside of those edge cases I've not used the oven for anything coming up 3 years in Feb

I wish I could fit my 16 inch pizza stone in the air fryer. 😉 I tried a frozen chicken last night. 100% never again. Always defrost 1st in my opinion. Might have a blast at cheese scones today. Just popped into my head.

You can do frozen chicken breast in an air fryer no problem. I was quite surprised by that but it works surprisingly well, but I wouldn't do a frozen whole chicken 😂

If you do a whole chicken I would spatchcock it first it'll cook a lot better and fit easier allowing a larger one to be used

I was late home, had a frozen chicken and thought, why not... well I know why not now :D

I have a George Foreman, an air fryer and a slow cooker. Have barely touched the oven in 18 months.
You could reduce that down to two devices with a foodi and a grill 😂

I really like my grill air fryer as it has a grill plate heated from below and you can cook with the lid on, which essentially engages the air fryer as well, or lid open which just uses the grill plate so replicates a gas bbq, very good if doing bbq for 2 although nothing like a coal bbq but nice got a Weber, a Traeger and an ooni so right tool for the right job I think.
