Celtic

What is strange to me is when working in Aberdeen there was quite a lot local people who "supported" either Rangers or Celtic.
Its the same everywhere. I just don't get these people. I remember growing up, Leeds Utd were the club of choice and then it became Man u and Liverpool.
Working abroad, the clubs of choice for other nationalities were Barca, Real, Juve, Man U and Liverpool - Not many outside of that group.

When I worked in Norway is was pretty much all Man United or Liverpool. Most Norwegians would say they supported the English clubs first, before also stating I support Brann, Viking or Molde too!

As for Scotland. Aberdeen really should play to 40k. It's not only the city but the Aberdeenshire area too. However, I know people in Peterhead and the Broch (Frazerborough) who support Rangers, Celtic or an English team. Same for places close such as Inverurie

I had a Man U mate (From Salford) who once asked me "how do you support a club that doesn't win anything?"

Where do you start with that? They view their club from a completely different perspective to most other fans.
It's symptomatic of a weak minded person to me. Got no faith in their own ability to succeed so they need to live vicariously through the results of a football club.

Incredibly sad.

Simple reply would be ' I believe your club picks you , you dont pick your club ' I was born within earshot of AP hence only one club for me

I think in the case mentioned...being born in Salford, it's not so much a choice, rather, what you get used to.

I know what you mean though.... people who CHOOSE to be a Man U supporter who have no affinity to the City, heritage etc are incredibly sad and needy.

Theres a Manure fan who goes in my local in Yarm and is draped in memorabilia.
He scoffs at the Boro and I like to retort that I've been to OT infinitely more than him

Have the same conversations at work, when you start getting stick for being a boro fan, I always just ask how many times have you seen man u/liverpool/city/Chelsea play.

Going back to Rangers and celtic.....

Let's face it, people who follow these clubs (who are not from Glasgow) are doing it for political reasons and have little or no interest what either teams are doing football wise.

There is a lad where I work , I would guess around 30, wears a Liverpool shirt and calls them 'us'. I asked how many times he had been the the library, sorry Anfield, yes never.

Even I have been six or seven times to see them best us every time.

Go in any toilet on an industrial estate to see their real feelings toward each other. And then they work perfectly happily.

Dead right , but still we go as like I say we are chosen by the boro

I suppose with Celtic and Rangers the football is secondary to politics - That is why they should NEVER be allowed anywhere near the English League system.

We all know £££ talks and if they could of got in they would have . What's kept them out is all the police forces as imagine trying to police 100 k fans on the lash in British cities each week

Think it's also a reluctance to have to deal with failure. What they simply cannot grasp is promotion or beating a big club like Man United is the same feeling for us as they get winning the league. The more setbacks you have the more you appreciate the successes.

They'll never know what it's like winning a cup for a club of our size, their loss.

Definitely a mentality thing. When I went to watch Aussie rules in Melbourne, we asked who the underdog was so we knew who to support. I suspect your average Essex based Man United fan would instinctively back the favourite.

I agree , those memories of those UEFA nights will never ever leave me . It has to be in your heart to truly feel it . Not just like ' supporting ' picking a team like buying a new car because of the new flash model
