Carricks first game to be Preston

So he'll manage 5 games before the world cup break. Don't think we'll be able to really judge him for a while. We just have to try to get as many points as possible and get into that month off ASAP so we can have what is effectively going to be like another pre season. Probably have a couple of friendlies to keep the fitness up? Could be good for us, allow us to properly reset and let Carrick use the time away from league fixtures to imprint his philosophy onto the squad of players who haven't travelled away with their respective national teams. Then we come back early December at home to Luton, with England hopefully still in Qatar though I seriously doubt it, and fingers crossed we hit the ground running over Xmas and bring a few talented loan players in from United's academy
5 games to the World Cup and then 25 games to the end of the season. I think realistic expectations would have to be focused on Championship survival this season.

These days that's not the only choice for a manager, he could well plump for:-

1) Thom Browne cardigan like Scott Parker
2) Stone Island puffa like Pep
3) Zip up jumper ala Gerrard
4) Pleather jacket and stonewashed jeans ala Gareth Ainsworth
We need a decent Errea coat!

I agree but that's a minimum target. With the squad we've got we should not be in the bottom three or anywhere near the relegation scrap. Personally I think top half is a good target. We're only 6 points off and we're bound to go on a decent run at some point. Woodgate somehow put four back to back wins together over Xmas and won manager of the month, so surely Carrick can do something similar. Playoffs for me just aren't attainable. Some might say top half is too far because we need to learn to walk before we run, but I think we can genuinely do it. But end of the day if he keeps us up, hopefully not just by the skin of our teeth, we can back him next summer and follow that up with a decent season.

I love how the Robson decision to wear shorts with his suit was clearly not communicated to him before he turned up on the day. I'm guessing he turned up in his suit and dress shoes and someone gave him the shorts and socks to wear but nobody had thought to get him some trainers so he had to do it either barefoot or in dress shoes.

I would personally target safety this season as it gives Carrick chance to assess the squad and embed his style of play. We're nine points off the playoffs which feels big, and it doesn't really matter where we finish if it's between 7th-21st.

I'm not even sure I'd target playoffs next season (unless there's quite a bit of cash to spend, which doesn't appear to be the case). We played incredibly well for spells of last season and didn't make it.

These things tend to be built on three year cycles - I'd go playoffs end of 24/25 I think.

Obviously discounting automatic as it would be a miracle if we achieve it, given our complete lack of a competitive financial position (and if we do, Carrick would likely be poached by a rival anyway).

According to Craig Johns. Leo will be in charge for tomorrow and Saturday

Disappointed with that news. We are in need of some stability. The new manager should be in asap and he should want to be in asap.

Not the best start for me if true.

I would rather stick with Leo than Carrick as Carrick will have the same poor team to deal with until January as this season is written off its all about staying in this league for next season.

So you want us to focus on staying in the league by keeping somebody in charge who has done a poor job in his first 3 games in charge?

Strange thinking.

Does anyone think Carrick will turn it around in the next 5 games before break more than leo can i dont the team needs improvement.

These players are perfectly capable of playing well. They did so a number of times last season. We don't need another shedload of new players, we need a coach who can get them playing.

I'd like to think he and his coaching staff could, yes.
The players are far better than they're showing right now.
Most have them finished 7th last season.

Even if the squad needs improvement, improving the managerial situation helps us.

Leo has shown nothing to indicate that he should be in charge in those 3 matches full time.
Bar one second half where we still ended up losing, we've been rubbish in every one of them.

Even if he doesn’t turn it around in the 5 games,
He effectively has a pre season with the players to assess them and implement his philosophy.

Straight after that he has a transfer window
