Carrick to West Ham?

Lets face it Boro are not going to get promoted this year, as we are a club in transition. I would be surprised if Carrick would take a PL job until he has achieved something and I would be surprised if a PL club would want him until then either. He's got his whole managerial career ahead of him and he is still learning. What's the hurry?
Aren't we always a club in transition? I never get that statement.
Carrick has done fine at Boro so far but nothing will really be achieved i.e. promotion unless the defence is sorted. I know it's a long time ago but wasn't that why Big Jack was so successful?

That is the model isn't it? Sell your most valuable player(s) each season and invest in youth. By doing that, we will always feel like we are in transition like you said.
Hackney will be the one we lose this year and can't replace.

If he doesnt get us promoted then why would he be a loss?

He has no control over the recruitment, the players we get are the ones he has to work with and the new model seems to be buy cheap and develop, fair enough. If he can get us promoted with this group then great, if he cant then its most likely down to the recruitment, not him. In which case its unlikely anybody would get us promoted. A new manager would probably fare just the same.

I like him, he seems to get the best out of players but its not a disaster if he leaves. We are a mid table squad who he may get playing on the cusp of the play offs but I just dont see us being promoted this season. If he goes not much changes

Everything you say about the recruitment and the standard of the squad is correct.

Agree

A new manager would probably fare just the same.
Don't agree. There are plenty of managers that wouldn't have these players winning as many games as what we are. I think Carrick is probably over achieving with the squad, therefore would be a big loss.

Yes he probably is over achieving i agree - but if we dont get promoted does it really matter if we finish 7th or 16th? Beyond a bit more optimism for the next season Id say not.

But still, getting promoted is all that really matters and thats far more down to the squad than the manager.

I think Carrick has done a pretty good job up until now. We've played some good football under his stewardship, and I have been impressed with the way he conducts himself with regards to his handling of the media and his man-management skills.

Concern is, I'm really unsure regarding where we're likely to finish this season. We've had a lot of bad luck with injuries and to be honest, if we finish midtable, I don't think fans will see it as a disaster.

I think fans are prepared to be patient and think long-term, if we genuinely feel that Carrick is building something here, but without being disrespectful to Carrick, if we do miss out on the play-offs, I can't see why a Premier League club would be interested in him, and why he'd want to leave.

If he left and failed in the Premier League, he could quite easily end up becoming another Frank Lampard.
