Captain Tom RIP

He stood for freedom against evil he inspired so many with his act of generosity. His family and indeed the country can be so proud.

What did you do in the plague, Grandad,
what did you do in the plague?
Stuck fast in a world of double-talking
I put on my boots and kept on walking.
That’s what I did in the plague son,
that’s what I did in the plague.

But aren’t you ever so old Grandad,
aren’t you ever so old?
Older than most, old enough to know better
but I wrote my own rules and stuck to the letter.
Yes I’m ever so old son,
yes I’m ever so old.

So how far did you walk Grandad,
how far did you walk?
Round and round the garden, just far enough
to ignite a fuse and light a country up.
That’s how far I walked son,
that’s how far I walked.

But didn’t your old legs get tired Grandad,
didn’t your old legs get tired?
Whenever they felt a bit tired or sore,
I thought of the sick and walked a bit more.
Yes my old legs got tired son,
yes my old legs got tired.

They say you raised all that money Grandad,
32 million pounds, I heard.
It’s not for me to look at amounts,
I just did my bit and that’s all that counts.
We all did it together son,
we all did it together.

We’ve not known him a year but he will be really missed.

And so will his generation, which is also also my mam and dad’s generation, fading away quietly.

In truth, don't understand what it's all about but no doubt Mr Moore did well, especially for someone 100 years of age. He's certainly had a good innings. May he rest in peace.
