Can you be a supporter if you don't attend the matches?

A fan is something you like i.e i am a fan of the pet shop boys

A supporter would be something you actively support whether it be in the pub cheering your team on or in person at a Stadium i guess

Be careful with that, people with that label usually get shot at dawn in some countries.
I go occasionally not even every season but have the bug again after the Warnock time and going to his South West tour.
I do have 2 tickets for matches at Burnely and Coventry at home waiting to be used and still waiting for the Bristol City ticket to turn up. It's just an exceptional end to this season and I know I regret it if I didn't put an effort into see them.
That is a long journey for you. When I was living in Devon, I was in Barnstaple, as such it was a major journey to even get around the county. It was 2 hours to even get to Plymouth and an hour to Exeter/Taunton.

I have since moved back to Wiltshire, so easier to get to Bristol and other matches. Unfortunately my mates are all Bristol City fans, due to me being brought up in Bristol. So it is a difficult match to watch.

i refuse to give up my love of boro though.

Interested in comments here. I'm being told on another thread that because I don't actually attend the matches I can't be a supporter.

This despite explaining that in my almost 54 years I have had a season ticket almost 20 times. I no longer live locally and have to avoid crowds due to ongoing covid CEV risk, hence why I don't go at the moment.

This apparently means I can no longer be a fan of the club.

This is clearly nonsense. People can't attend for a myriad of reasons and following this logic, Boro could only ever have about 30,000 fans at one time.

Just interested in other views?
If its in your blood and in your heart, if its the team you're proud to support, if it's the first result you look for, if you're gutted when we lose, elated when we win and you're a right pessimistic b*st*rd, then you're Boro fan to me.

ST holder at Ayresome and the Riverside. Moved away from the area due to work/career/future wife. Kids both Boro fans. Try to get to as many games as I can. Get narked when we lose. Have a lot of Boro mugs. Supporter ✔️

If we were Man City you might be able to argue you're a glory fan but we're Boro 🙂 to be honest I struggle to go as much as a used to.

If you follow a non premier League team you're probably a fan.

Last one ended with you leaving for a while upset. I know things can be tough for you so I’d rather avoid a repeat if that’s ok with you 🙂👍
You’re a super fan Sherlock.
You might not have gone to a match since whenever but trust me, you’re a super fan.

I absolutely love any opportunity to tell anyone I'm a boro fan and it's even better when they know who we are.

The games are on at peak time on Saturday night for me with time difference which living in a city with a pretty good social scene has been a pain under certain managers.

That said, I'm lucky enough to be very close friends of the manager of Hanoi's most well known sports bar. At 9 or 10pm every week the boro are broadcast to a room full of confused tourists and Premier League fans on their jollies and I go through the highs and lows like like I'm at the Riverside as best I can.

Just text him to make sure the game will be on tonight, it's 10am and I'm excited already.

Really, I think you just know. If you're a fan/supporter/follower, whatever.

If you shed the occasional tear at "Rochemback, the goalkeepers saved it, Maccarone, ohhhhh" (getting goose bumps as I type it) or whether you just check the score, you're a fan.

As with so many things in life, there's undoubtedly a spectrum. A spectrum I love.

I'm not a nationalist, patriot maybe but I don't believe implicitly that the UK or England is 'better' than any other nation.

However, when it comes to boro I can say we are. We are the best football club to support in the world and I am grateful that I was born into supporting us and chose to continue so in my adulthood.

Very few, if any other things in my life have given me the variety of emotions boro do.

I made it home last February to be best man at a wedding and during that trip we played Spurs at home in the cup. I was absolutely buzzing. I bought tickets and dragged my semi reluctant dad to the game. We went for a pint in the top house first, nattered on, had one in boro before the game and it was just out luck. A Howson masterclass and Coburn to finish it off.

Hugged my dad and saw the absolute joy on his face, talked about how it was one of the best moments we'd had since he took me to the Steau and Basel games, they were on his dime, this game was on mine. I felt an immense sense of pride that I now as a fully grown man had taken my dad to the game and gave back some of the joy he'd given me.

Sat outside in the cold at 'off the bar' or whatever it's called and waxed lyrical.

Took my friend Tom to city away and he laughed at the idea of us getting a result but I could feel it in my bones that we'd get the better of them that day. I was sure. Also took him to Brighton away, despite their unbeaten run, I was sure.

All of this rambling. Every post on this thread. It's all boro.
