Tbh I think I think it’s each case on it’s own merit.
I have a fair few mates who I used to go with regularly home and away in the 00s etc (there was a big group of us).
nowadays, a lot of them don’t go to matches (some still come with me). Are they supporters? No, not because they don’t go much now though, but because they’re more into cooking and eating in fancy restaurants etc, they barely look out for our results, don’t watch on VPN/IPTV, maybe at best flick on the radio for 10 minutes if they remember but probably not every week. They would struggle to tell you our starting lineup.
If, when Boro are playing, you’re invested ie listening to every kick, watching on the internet, or even just reading some text commentary, following the match as it goes on, then you’re a supporter.
If you’re sat doing something else every week, and not even thinking about our match until 7pm when you remember to check how we get on, then na, not for me. Just accept you’ve moved on in my opinion, but don’t claim to be some die hard when you’re not. There’s nowt worse than plastic fans.
I’ve no idea what category you’re in Sherlock.
