Can somebody give me a balanced view on Trump?

Similar to here there's obviously a big element of voting against the party/candidate you dislike as much as for the one you do like.

Others have already pointed out that some will have voted against Harris based on her race and gender. But there must also be a bit of blame apportioned to the DNC. The arrogance and hubris to think they could just run Biden without voters noticing his mental decline, and then to switch him out as late as they did, bypassing their usual democratic processes for selecting a candidate in primaries must have lost a number of voters before campaigning even began.

People felt better off under Trump and felt let down by Biden.

Let’s not forget Harris was supposed to take over from Biden and that didn’t happen.. he had to be forced out in the end.

For me.. he won the election when he got up from that attempted assassination punching the air.. that was the moment in my opinion.

Think we need exactly what he suggests in this country and put the people of the country first people don't like him because he is rich and think why is he doing it when he could just retire. As for Harris i think she is very dangerous and now will just disappear and not be heard of again

I’m on holiday in Thailand at the moment and just chatted to 4 American ladies who said it’s a sad day for the USA and apologised for the result . They then told me they were going to get smashed on cheap cocktails to drown out their upset .

I liked them !

Trump appeals to the hollowed out middle of US society - especially those who 50 years ago had a decent family house, couple of gas guzzlers on the drive, house full of all mods and cons like the Brady Bunch. Felt like they were wealthy. Now their incomes are halved and they feel poorer than a South Korean.

A lot of Trumps popularity is also down to him not being a career politician - think a lot of people (same in the UK) were fed up with continuously being lied to /let down by leaders who were perceived with being out of touch with the common people.

Tell the people what they want to hear even if you don't deliver it......recipe for success.

The cult MAGA following is a strange one.

A balanced view.

Trump is charismatic, he wants to make America a better country. He’s not particularly hawkish and has good relations with Putin so he’ll have a good chance of ending the conflict in the Ukraine.
He wants to control immigration and keep taxes low. He is pro-life and in America that is a big deal, even amongst women. He’s seen as a Christian and that counts for a lot too.

I can see why he was elected.
When you say balanced…. as there are zero negatives there does that mean any perceived negatives are not balanced?

Lots of people jumping to conclusions and then believing those conclusions and then reinforcing their false narrative by making out that everyone who doesn’t agree with them is an idiot, a moron.. a racist.

I mean.. that’s part of it too. The democrats taking their supporters for granted.. taking the American people for mugs. Biden ran his campaign on being ‘not trump’ and people didn’t see enough of a change or a difference to justify that.

Then he overstayed his welcome.. and Harris had to run on being ‘not Biden’

It’s very simple and Trump seems to be king of simple. The democrats needed to do more, they needed to offer more.

In the end Trump just had to be ‘not the democrats’

- bit of a lesson for Labour in there. shape up or ship out.

Good point

A balanced view

For further balance…

Trump is a narcissist, he wants to make America a whiter country. He’s not particularly interested in foreign policy, has a bizarre relationship with Putin, so he’ll allow Russia to occupy the Ukraine.
He wants to control immigration and keep taxes low for the rich. He is a pro-life nutter and in America that is a big deal, especially amongst the religious right. He’s a fantasist and people believe him.

I can see why he was elected.

Trump says things all other Politicians won’t say and people like him for it. The whole Make America Great Again appeals to communities sold out by rich Corporate America to China, so using this tactic gets millions of people on his side.

Like it or not, he also has a presence about him and lots of people like people like that. Ordinary people are happy to let others lead, as long as they speak and act a way they like. Trump often says he loves people, and they’re great and stuff. He’s not stupid. He knows that gives him credit with many people.

The majority of people are obviously unhappy in the incumbent administration and have voted for change. Trump says what the people want to hear regardless of how idiotic he may sound to the rest of the world. If Americans prosper under his leadership then he will be seen as a success. I would never call any one stupid for voting for what they belive regardless if I agree or not, they maybe misinformed or manipulated but just calling them stupid is just dumb.

Yet Trump is one of those rich corporates who will shiit on anyone to make a buck, including his own stupid, pathetic supporters. And they will cheer him on while he does so.
He will just blame someone else for any of his failings, or declare anything flung his way as fake news. His cult simply laps it up, not bothering to think for themselves.
