Cameron Archer

Archer's was exceptional at making runs and finishing. He also didn't need much space to get a hard accurate shot away. Coventry made sure he was closed down very quickly and not left space to break into. In the play off games their team's main focus was to stop our forward players which they did.

Ref Giles - lots on here posted he was a very good Championship, but not a Premier player, because of shortfalls in his defending. A bit of strange signing for Luton, because they had built their success on low scoring wins. I would guess Rob Jones throught he could make him a better defender.

Archer has also only played 3 league matches for them so far, he was brilliant on his league debut, scoring one and basically scoring the Pickford own goal.

Obviously contributed very little last night, but the team were being demolished.

I think he'll perform under the new manager.

Both Archer and Ramsey have apparently already negotiated their future contracts in the event of the buy back being used.

They're both from the Birmingham area and Villa fans, and have clearly both agreed to the buy-backs, so I'd be surprised if they turned down the chance to return in the event of relegation.
Unless they have incredible individual seasons, they're not going to have a bigger club interested in them than Aston Villa.
This is a loophole that surely the FA are going to close as it effectively means they have 2 contracts on the go at the same time. I am not claiming to be an expert but surely only one of them is legally enforceable.

I get what you are saying about both players probably wanting to go back but if this is just a way to get tround FFP then it will get clamped down on fairly quickly to stop all of the other teams exploiting it.

Archer didn’t turn up in the playoff games and to be honest, take away his goals and he offered little value for me. I’m happy with lath and Coburn.
Especially Coburn because he can finish and is intelligent and hard working

What!!?? - the impact he had on the team last season was absolutely invaluable to the way we played - did you watch him against Norwich, Cardiff and so many other games where he was great for us.
He gave us so many options up front - over the top - one twos on edge of the opponent's box, shots outside the box - a natural finisher and lots more besides.
You were not watching the same player that I did last season.

If we have a player who will get us a guaranteed 15-20 league goals (which Archer would have IMO), I couldnt care less if he laid down for 88 minutes in all honesty
If all he does is score 15 goals and nothing else, then it's a no from me. You've got to be getting around 25 for that kind of luxury player. We've been there with Assombalonga scoring 14/15 goals and being crap the rest of the time.

Archer will have a much bigger and better career than Coburn will.

'Take away his goals, and he offered little value for me' - this must be the most moronic statement made on here in a long time.

Take away Lenihan's ability to defend, and he offers little value...

Scoring/creating goals was Archer's job. And he was bloody good at it too.

I'd go as far as saying, Archer is the best striker we've had in a long long time, and it will probably be a long time until we get someone as good.

It was only 5 months and yes he went off the boil a little with just 3 goals in the last 7 / at the business end of the season.

However he was still significantly better than most other strikers since those halcyon days of Viduka / Yak / Jimmy

Oh to have a striker, who scores 3/7 when off the boil

absolutely agree, even at his worst he is way more dangerous than Fletcher, Britt, Sporar, Gestede, even as far back as Emnes and Aliadiere

He was one of handful of competent forwards of the last 15 years with Negredo, Bamford and Akpom.
I think you're forgetting about Bart Ogbeche. All time top scorer in the Indian Super League and still banging the goals in.

Cheeky loan move in Jan to bring the Bart man home?

Archer would thrive alongside Coburn, who on the limited evidence of Saturday could turn out be pivotal to this season.

Yea very close call between him and Bamford (play off season) in my opinion.

If you held a gun to my head i'd have to say Archer.

Apart from that, you probably need to go back to the JFH/Viduka/Yak days for a decent striker.

What a man I'd certainly have him back. We're the only English club he played for.

The stark reality with the Prem is that failure is not such a bad thing for most owners who go up from the Championship. Ok we can all mock the Blades after their humiliating loss at the weekend but it’s just one game and while it’s tough to take, I don’t believe it’s a bad thing to get the team onside in terms of bonding together.

I remember very well under McClaren we also lost heavily at home to Arsenal early season. The loss while humiliating definitely had a bonding effect on our players and we eventually went on to have a decent season.

I raise you Bernie Slaven, who didnt seem to a great deal but loads of goals, they are worth their wait in gold to any team.
You could even add Erling Haarland to that catergory
