Cameron Archer

I raise you Bernie Slaven, who didnt seem to a great deal but loads of goals, they are worth their wait in gold to any team.
You could even add Erling Haarland to that catergory
different era, he would be league one these days, because he didn’t have enough work rate and vision to play high up the leagues

As for Haaland, huge difference between Bernie’s 1 in 2 1/2 games and Haaland 1 per game

Yes Haaland has more of the Archie Stephens about him!
I most certainly wasnt comparing Slaven to Haarland, I was just carrying on the discussion re forwards who score goals who dont appear to contribute a lot more to the game other than that, which was in response to the Archer comments made by a few others.

Archer will have a much bigger and better career than Coburn will.

'Take away his goals, and he offered little value for me' - this must be the most moronic statement made on here in a long time.

Take away Lenihan's ability to defend, and he offers little value...

Scoring/creating goals was Archer's job. And he was bloody good at it too.

I'd go as far as saying, Archer is the best striker we've had in a long long time, and it will probably be a long time until we get someone as good.
The truth is though he was crap versus Coventry for 3 games.
He’s gone to a club like Sheffield utd who are getting relegated and he was anonymous for them versus Newcastle at the weekend…..I just think archer was clearly a good finisher but drifted out of games and isn’t ready for the premiership imho
And, Coburn has a great chance of having as good a career as archer…

It’s hard to know where to start with that

Apart from scoring the equaliser from what was initially less than a half chance at the Riverside in the league game and having p1$$ poor service in the play offs. A quality striker and goalscorer such as Archer are rare, but you could have put Shearer, or Rooney or Dalgleish in their hay day in that role and they’d have failed to score feeding off scraps in the play offs. I feel for him at Sheffield, he‘d get better service at McDonalds.

3 game sample size :ROFLMAO:

Anyone can look crap in a 3 game sample size. Bloody hell, even Messi has gone 3 games without a goal before.

Great chance?

They're miles apart. Archer will probably get an England cap, on top of the number of U21 England caps he's gained.

Archer is actually scoring in the PL, whereas, Coburn might be lucky to even step foot in the Premier League.

He looks to be a good striker for this division, but suggesting he could go on and have a similar career to Archer is genuinely laughable.

But he isnt, is he

He is giving examples of strikers who 'offer little' but bag goals
You might as well have used Kris Boyd in that list, because scoring goals is not always enough. Boyd had a much better career goals per game than Slaven. even in his prime for Boro, Slaven was a 1 in 3 striker. The only time he ever acheived a 1 in 2 ratio was in the Scottish Second Division before he joined us.

Kris Boyd achieved 1 in 2 9x. But was awful.

Haaland is off the charts, and is an example of what it takes ot be a limited player, but unbelievable goalscorer. He has scored a goal a game twice (currently heading for three), and close to a goal a game another two seasons. It's a completely different level of goalscoring to someone like Slaven, or Boyd, or almost anyone. He bucks the trend of someone that just scores goals. But you have to reach at least Kris Boyd levels to 'just score goals' and be worth keeping in your side in the modern game.

I agree with this but Coburn is probably 2 years behind so the next few are critical for him.

Remarkable that after taking such a daft stand, EFL would double down on it.
Archer was outstanding for us and I don't understand why anybody would want to try and re-write history.
Twisted.

Was largely anon in a poor team.
Doesn't distract from the cracking job he did for us.
Not sure why people have an issue with the truth?

This is a huge year for Coburn, he's currently got the shirt, and is showing loads of ability, if he adds some goals (and the issue there is his team mates getting good balls into the box for him), then his stock will rise very, very fast. He will then have the opportunity to nail his place in teh starting XI and get a new contract, or move to another club.

Because of how he plays, and his age, I think he needs 18 months in the side at this level, getting experience before he moves anywhere. He has the potential to be the best focal-point striker outside the prem by the end of this season to be honest. He's supremely strong for his age, a great size, is quicker than he was a year ago, has superb ability to play back to goal and play players in, makes good runs, and hits the target 90% of the time. I'm hugely excited to see how his career develops, hopefully here
