Yes another thread about him.

If we get promoted, we need to pay whatever it takes to sign him. Villa are flying and have Watkins who is in the form of his life. They are pushing for European places and can imagine Emery with his contacts will want some proven firepower to compete with Watkins.

I think Archer is electric and his small stature makes him a nightmare for defenders the way he just brushed that defender off last night and then the composure to finish. He’s brilliant.

9 goals already for us and he’s only been here since January.

Get the chequebook out Gibson.

I think he is outstanding and is getting better and better.
If we do go up then I'd sign Archer and Ramsey and get Chuba tied up for 3 years.

Recruiting for the PL needs to be investment in players who will keep us up and grow in value.
If we can't get Archer because Villa won't sell, then get Gyokeres who is also brilliant.

Wherever we end up next season, I hope that Gibbo opens the chequebook and tries to get him here. The competition might be from the likes of Burnley (if we don't go up) or some of the lower PL teams (if we do) You cna expect that his goal scoring has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

I think Ramsey is a different issue as don’t forget he has 2 brothers at villa so I’d expect the ties are different.

I think Archer has already said he wants to go back and get into the Aston Villa? Isn’t he a Villa supporter. I’d love to see him back for at least another year. Same goes for Ramsey.

What a position we’re in. Akpom, Archer, Forss, Ramsey… Crooks can get 10 as well. We have young Coburn to come back. These lads have done so well that even if we don’t go up and can’t get them, you’d be more inclined to trust the recruitment side to unearth some more of these types of player.

It’s like the end of the 97/98 season when we were signing Inter Milan strikers and smashing teams 3 and 4-0.

Even our ‘keeper gets assists FFS. I absolutely love it.

There is one thing wanting it but if Emery is fishing in a bigger pond and we do get promoted there is no way Archer will want to be third or 4th choice at Villa when he could be leading the line for a premier league club he has already been successful with. ( us if we manage promotion)

If Villa wont sell Archer I think we’d get him on loan, same for Ramsey if we go up. I seriously doubt they’d sell Ramsey just yet, but if we could have them both back, even on loan I’d snap their hands off.

It would take around £25M for Archer and around £20M for Ramsey I’d guess but both would be great investments. Tie Akpomb down, that is also a must as Indeedido says. We would need a quality CM though and the defence investing in and sorting, but if we invest wisely Gibbo will be repaid in spades and us fans will be able to finally consign the Strachan to Wilder years to history. Easy this football malarky init 🤣

If they get into Europe, they'll both be at Villa next year i think. Playing last 10-15mins of odd league games, starting domestic cup games etc they'll have more games to play and i honestly think Archer will play for England eventually, he's a great finisher, he's quick and strong. There'll be a bidding war for him next year, but i can see him wanting to be back at Villa and fighting for game time.

Ramsey we might have a chance of signing though, while he's been impressive i think wide players are easier to find that natural finishers and Emery may be happy to let him go

Ramsey back on loan maybe.

For Archer - European football is a bit of a game changer, because without that then Archer might not get much football at Villa.

Don't ever fall in love with a loan player.

It might be tough, as there are a few scenarios and it might not work for either of them:

1: We get promoted, but is he a big enough name/ good enough to keep us in the prem, or do we think we have enough to stay in the prem if we hang on to Chuba and ride it out with Archer? Assuming we add strength elsewhere?

2: We don't get promoted, but then what is the chance of him wanting a year in the Championship, when there would no doubt be lower-level premiership clubs sniffing around. Don't get me wrong mind, I don't think it will do him any favours going to a lower level prem side and not playing, but so many do actually do this.

3: The stay at Villa option. I can't see how he goes back to Villa mind. They bought Jhon Durán just as they loaned out Archer to us, and I've no idea how good he is, but I imagine they expect he's better than Archer?
Either way, he was bought as a sub for Watkins, not as competition. The thing is, Villa now need competition for Watkins, especially if they want to press on, and as they're now 6th, to press on they're certainly going to need competition for Watkins. Who else do they have to play up front? Bertrand Traore doesn't look great from what I've seen, so he would probably end up out the door, as might some others?

Also, he's gonna have about 4 years left on his Villa contract, they're not going to roll over on price, and he's still an England U-21 isn't he? Maybe the best we can hope for is another loan, but then if it pays off, he'll end up back at Villa and they benefit, and if it doesn't work it likely means we've pinned our hopes on him, and it's not worked.

I really can’t see Villa selling him to be honest, unless it was daft money like Morgan Gibbs White was last summer, which we won’t do.

I’m sure there’s a rule when playing in European football regarding having so many players trained by the club for 3 years below the ages of 21, so I’m assuming they would see Archer as a player who could fit that rule.

They've both made a big impact on the team but I'm not worried if we can't keep them. Would be excited to see who we would signed instead of them. I've a lot more faith in the recruitment team now than I would have in years gone by.

His finishing is superb. The disallowed goal at Bristol was an incredible finish. Shame the linesman ruined it. Was amazed his chance in the first half was the wrong side of the post.

So Cameron, do you want to play every week in the PL as a starter, with a No10 who you have a great understanding with, in a defensively strengthened team that is set up to attack and has players who create loads of chances?
Of course he would want to sign for us.
Whether Villa will let him go and at what price is the issue.

We have a better chance now that Villa are doing so well - Expectation will raise, they have a money and a top coach. Targets will be higher than a young unproven Premier League player.

The kid is class, you can just tell in his movement, composure.

I’ve probably been daft not realising this, but it didn’t occur to me until last night that he is two footed as well. The shot with his left first half was technically very good. His finish with his right was perfect for a striker.

Villa probably don't want to sell now, and would probably want another year of development to see if he can be good enough for top 6 or to jack his price up. They've got him on a long contract so they hold all the cards.

He's 21 now though, and 22 early December, so would that kick the European thing into touch? I don't know anything about that to be honest.

I don't think him going back to Villa and having a year or two as a potential sub for Watkins will do him any favours though. He wouldn't even be guaranteed 2nd or 3rd choice probably, not by the end of the summer transfer window.

He's probably going to be a top champo or lower to mid-level prem striker for the next 3 years at least, and Villa are not aiming there.

On the flip side, to be fair any half-decent striker could probably score at 1 in 2 playing for us up front, under Carrick anyway. His pace effects how teams set up to us though, if they play high he gets round the back, and if they play deep it just leaves loads of space between the lines for chuba and our midfielders to crash the box late. We demonstrated that a few times last night, hull tried both ways, and neither worked for them second half.

I think Archer would do well to speak with Patrick Bamford when it comes to choosing your next club after a good loan with Boro. Bamford essentially wasted two years of his career sitting on the benches of Crystal Palace, Norwich and Burnley when he really should’ve just stayed with Boro and finished the job off in 2015/16.
