I didn’t discount those people. But people who are age 55+ are from a generation where growing up and ealry in their working lives they were in very deprived area. More deprived than we have today. I was trying to give understanding why people resent in this areaI think that's a massive generalisation. In the heydays of ICI, BSC and Seal Sands tens of thousands of people in this area made a very good living on above average wages and thousands have used their skills in the oil and gas industry further afield.
In today's world, Middlesbrough has taken more refugees per capita than anywhere else (the other standout place being Glasgow) and I believe we have made a pretty good fist of it considering we are now one of the most deprived areas in the UK. Of course you will find pockets of resentment but that is true of anywhere. There are some very well healed towns in the South East that won't welcome any refugees at all
Don’t get me wrong they were still had the yarms and nunthorpes
