Bruno Fernandez red card

I don't particularly like Fernandes, he loses his head, is a bit of a whiney bitch, and isn't captain material, but it wasn't a red for me. He slipped as he had a chance of getting the ball, which he had to go for, but subconsciously there was not enough time for him to change his mind and not put a tackle in, and caught Maddison on the shinpad with his ankle ffs. That probably hurt Fernandes a lot more than Maddison.

If anyone should have been carded it was Maddison for cheating to say he had studs to the knee, and rolling around like he had been shot.

It's no good Maddison saying after it wasn't a red either, as what he did helped make it a red, he took 3-4 steps after it and didn't even try to stay on his feet.

Don't get me wrong mind, Fernandes would have went down the same way, but I would grill Fernandes more for doing that, if the shoe was on the other foot, so to speak.

WTF though with VAR. Pack of absolute sihthouses sat in that box watching a terrible decision and not intervening in that….I know manure would’ve probably lost anyway but WTF are they learning in that VAR box ?
They are utterly pathetic

VAR as a farce and a waste of money, if you have it then there is no excuse for it been wrong. Get that it may be a subjective incident but if that’s the case it could go either way and decision on day should stand.

If they have got it that wrong it needs to be refunded then what are they doing in the VAR box..

Apparently to install VAR is between 5-10m for a promoted team depending on quality of ground on promotion. This does include for some stuff you would need for TV anyhow but wow… and also £20k per game to run and they make fcuk up after fcuk up…

Waste of time money and sucks enjoyment from the game

It’s the single biggest mistake the premier league has ever made introducing VAR

They are basically under instructions not to intervene this year on subjective judgement calls. That was always a bad idea, and this is the reason why, but a lot of people in the game seemed to support this higher intervention bar.

Certainly an argument not to use it on the basis that it slows the game down and take some of the spontaneity out of the spectator experience. But if you are going to use it at all, you should use it all the time on the basis that it’s more accurate. Stop worrying about the referee’s feelings.

I think the thing that makes it not a red for me is that the studs are up, but not at Maddison.

The foot goes infront of the player then hooks him with his ankle.

For me VAR should be like this.

Sumat happens - foul or whatever, ref makes his decision if he is sure.

If he isn’t sure he can jog over to the monitor and watch it again.

If he makes a decision which he is sure of without going to the monitor and the VAR refs are thinking “you’ve dropped a bollo(k there mate” or he has simply missed sumat (off the ball incident etc) they can just get in his ear and tell him to go watch it again.

Simply just allow the ref to make use of the fact that everything is being recorded and can watch instant replays etc just like the mangers / pundits / people at home. Makes no sense for the person making the decision to be one of the few people who can’t re-watch an incident.

We don't know what the referee said either way, that might have been what actually happened.

He definitely thought it was a red card to begin with, he might well have been adamant and felt there was no need to go check after having it confirmed that there was contact.

The guidance this season was to only try to overturn the referee's decision as a last resort.

I was just referring to VAR generally.

However I would add, regarding this decision and again generally, if a ref sees an incident and makes a decision and is then advised by VAR to view the monitor and decides not too, then he is making a very poor decision.

I said on the NEVER A RED CARD thread that I believed had the ref saw this Bruno tackle again on the monitor he wouldn’t have given a red.

The guidance is stupid. I am totally against VAR, but As mentioned above why can’t the ref watch a replay if he wants and what’s the point of only using it now and then ? Use it all the time or don’t bother. I am after the later
