Brother in law attacked at match

Nobody is glamourising hooliganism. Far from it. It was the Frontline and others who defended the innocent families in Rome when they came under attack from the Roma Ultras armed with knives. Would it have been better to leave them to fend for themselves?

The same applied to Wembley at half time in the ZDS Final when it kicked off badly in the concourse caused by a Chelsea surge. Would you have preferred the innocent families trying to go to the toilet, like myself, to fend for ourselves? the stewards and police were ineffectual.

I would never condone football violence, but left with finding innocent 'Boro fans being attacked by thugs any assistance in the absence of stewards or the police would be appreciated surely?
Do I want protection from hooligans from other hooligans? No I don't want any hooligans. They are part and parcel of the same problem.
I don't buy this concept of the noble hooligan following a strict honourable code and protecting the innocent.
Around 93 I witnessed our frontline heroes attack a pub in Newcastle before a night league cup game.
As they put the windows through and launched an attack on the occupants I don't think they paused to check that they were like minded individuals. I wonder how many 'scarfers', and members of the general public, young and old, got traumatized/hospitalised that night.

Terrrible - from the worst days of the 1980s when you had to hide your colours at away games and keep quiet.

I really thought this had stopped.

The ZDS Chelsea shytehawks - thats when my total hatred of Chelsea began - aged 13. add to that the big hard chelsea lads who turned up when we played leicester in the final, and the big hard chelsea lads who stopped me on my own walking up to wembley (except i wasnt alone, just pished and struggling to light a fag)

We were stood outside Macdonalds near wembley before the XDS and big mob of Chelsea came running up the street. We stepped into the door way to avoid them.
After they passed there was a guy who had been stood at the bus stop knocked out cold on the floor. He wasn't even going to the game.
Low life's.

Walikng back to the car from Fulham away a BMW pulled up with 4 knuckleheads in it they jumped out and started doing the stupid dancing on their toes thing shouting and screaming about be the Chelsea Headhunters. There was just me my mate and his lad.
Thankfully a woman shouted from an upstairs window she was filming it on her phone. They jumped back in the car and disappeared looking for more easy victims.
Imagine trawling the streets looking to beat someone up and your team wasnt even involved in the game.
My mate hasnt been back to an away game since.

That’s your opinion, however, I don’t talk utter rubbish. My comments are based on my experiences over 40 odd years of following Boro.
Your experiences may differ from mine but at least be respectful of another persons perspectives, I have seen our so called hooligan element ignore ordinary fans whilst seeking out a rival gang and visa versa. Places I’ve been to where any away fan was fair game were such as:- Wolves, Leeds, Man City, Sunderland and some others. No one wants to see people attacked at football matches nor anywhere else for that matter, but talking “utter rubbish” Not in my experiences

Regardless, they were all and still all a big pack of *******.

We all have different experiences from following the 'Boro. I certainly know what I have seen in 40 years and nobody can question that because it is my own reality. It would be wrong to have a black and white, all or nothing, thinking style on this matter. It is the antitheses of sublimation.

We would all agree that hooliganism is wrong. It is pernicious and a stain on football. Thankfully we can now enjoy watching games, most of the time, without the risk of being attacked. And wear our colours with pride.

Bigging up hooligans because they protected you from other hooligans is the same as defending the right to carry a gun in order to protect you from someone else who has a gun.

That is an absurd, ridiculous comparison. Nobody is 'bigging' up hooliganism and if you read the remarks properly you will see that for yourself. I would never praise any hooligan. I would though appreciate anyone who protected me and my children if they were being attacked by hooligans. That was my point. I remember vividly the ZDS Final at half time in the concourse and seeing a Boro fan holding his child crying while Chelsea thugs ram amok attacking anyone linked with 'Boro.

That is your opinion and I respect that. My comments are based purely on my experiences over the years and having watched the Boro all over the country and abroad I don’t necessarily agree with your assessment of some of the individuals who you have collectively described as “a big pack of ….”

And you know what you have seen more than anyone.

Surely the point of this thread was to be able to show our compassion for the football fan attacked and his children traumatised by young thugs that I personally feel have dishonoured our football club and the town. They are not part of what you might call a football family.
But most of all we wanted to pass on concerns and sympathies to the victims.

i never wear anything boro when attending away games (or show my colours). I know we shouldnt be stopped from showing off our team but sometimes its common sense especially against Leeds, Newcastle or Sunderland you in effect draw unwanted attention to yourself and become a sitting duck

When and why did this thread turn into a 'Our Hooligans are nicer than your Hooligans' thread?

And I echo the sentiments and hope the chap in question is okay and condemn the actions of the morons who did it.

Totally agree with your sentiments. I feel for anyone whose been caught up in trouble over the years Football should be a safe environment for all to attend. Unfortunately you’re always going to have certain people, probably not even attending the match looking for innocents to attack.

Cowardly behaviour and hopefully there is such a thing as Karma and it comes back on them.
