Britt Assombalonga - Released

No chance, he’s too selfish, not mobile enough, can’t trap a ball and can’t hold the ball up either. His reading of the game is terrible as well as he constantly makes the wrong decisions in games.

The old joke about Lukakus second touch being a slide tackle should apply to Assombolonga but he’s too lazy to bother putting the tackle in and would rather just let the opposition have the ball.

Great interview with Assombalonga (with the same guys who did the one with Isaiah Jones.)

Goes into a lot of detail about his time at Boro, including nearly going for Pulis in a training session and how he was frozen out of the team.

I don't want us to sign him again, but he'd definitely score goals under Carrick.

If he was willing to half his wages - I'd have him back...

But he definitely won't do that soo... He'll be off to the middle east.

Assombolonga wouldn’t fight anyone, he’s too bl00dy lazy.

Not his fault we spent all that money on him whoever pushed for / sanctioned the transfer is to blame. It was clear after his injury when he returned to Forests team he’d lost his pace and couldn’t run in behind anymore which was how he scored many of his goals previously. It amazes me we didn’t do our homework properly on signing that big. He tried to adapt he bulked up I think with the aim of becoming more of a target man but it didn’t work as he wasn’t good enough with the ball and struggled to hold it up against anyone with a half decent defence.

For me it would be a no. I think he is to closely linked with a bad time for the club, big fees, no long term plans and high wages for poor, average or just above average players is still being felt by the club financially now. I don't hold these players responsible for this as they are just people trying to earn a wage, but bringing one of these players back would just leave a slightly bitter taste in my mouth and a big reminder of what could of been if things had been done differently.

Agreed, he was an awful awful footballer. Really poor technical player. His poor technique meant that once he came up against a competent defence it was like playing with 10 men.

I’ll repeat the stat, in 48 games against top six championship sides he failed to score in 46 of them. He did score plenty against Burton, Hull, Rotherham and Peterborough though

Maybe we can tempt Fletcher back and Rudy out of retirement whilst we're at it.

The fact he done it with much poorer players around him under pulis not a player I’d want back not a 15 million striker however he did have a decent goal ratio for us
Braithwaite, Howson, Randolph, Gibson, Leadbitter etc. let’s not pretend this was a Strachan or Mowbray squad. Plenty of good players in that team.

The only problem with Britt was his price tag and wages. Laziness aside he still scored 1 in 4 over 4 seasons. If Rogers gets the same return (10+ goals), we'll see him as a great signing.

The way that some people talk about him on here - He's not a Gaston Ramirez or a Braithwaite or a Rudy Gestede, or a Mido - or even Emerson (who strangely lots of people talk very fondly of), who all took the p!ss out of the club and the fans. He went off the boil at the end, but before that scored lots of goal in a team that was not exactly swashbuckling in attacking intent. It is clear that he was mismanaged at points as well.

You're not really selling it to me! Will he be less lazy on half his wages? (still about 20k)

Howson is one of the least creative regular midfielders we've had, only 1 goal involvement every 10 games, and he was far less impressive under Monk/Pulis than he had been in recent years.

Leadbitter managed 1 assist in the season he played with Assombalonga, and I'd guess it was from a set piece.

Braithwaite barely played with him, and when he did it was half arsed because he'd been denied a move.

Gibson and Randolph weren't going to help him score goals.

It wasn’t.
He was a poor technical player, was poor at starting the press, had a bad touch, didn’t have a trick in his locker, didn’t score from outside the box, wasn’t a good passer, dribbled with his head down, couldn’t win a headed challenge, wasn’t creative and couldn’t score against top teams.

Howson might not have many assists, but he has lots of assist assists. there was a complaint that he had poor players around him, he didn’t

As bad as you describe and somehow still managed to score 10-15 championship goals 5 seasons in a row.

Goalhanging against poor sides and little else. He’s atop league one player and will keep you out of the relegation zone in the championship by scoring against your relegation rivals. But he’s never been good enough for a team with promotion aspirations
