Brighton make record £123m profit after fine season

Brighton announce record profit and turnover in 2022-23 after the most successful season in the Premier League club's history.

These figures do not include the sales of Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo and Spain keeper Robert Sanchez, who both joined Chelsea in August 2023

Caicedo was sold for £100m, which could rise to a British record £115m. Sanchez made the same move for £25m.

It does help when you have Chelsea with their billions tripping over themselves to stuff cash into your bank account (but you have to recruit the players that they want first, so fair play to their recruitment model).
 
Yeah absolutely rinsed Chelsea, shame! That said they are a slick operation, like Brentford, have a clear plan and stick to it even with changing players and managers.
 
I'm sure there was a fan on 606 the other night moaning about progress and that they needed to invest in the squad to make top 4!

Be interesting to see how they get on in the next few years as it will be very hard for them to continue the flipping of players for huge sums and keep being competitive in top half of prem. Something will give

Phone ins always attract some strange people, heard a Spurs fan on the other day saying they should change manager if they don't get top 4 even if they get Champions league for 5th!

Bar the 6 who have a 100% prem record, every teams time has come at some point and the wheels fall off, a lot of the time it’s as much getting the manager wrong as poor player recruitment, so will be interesting to see what happens at Brighton as they seem to be a lot more organised with their analysis when recruiting both players and managers
 
I remember going to the Goldstone ground to see Boro play them and there was about six thousand there in a ramshackle old wreck of a place - you’d never have believed back then they’d be challenging in the top half of the top flight one day.

This is exactly what I was going to say, they are the modern version of Southampton, finding young players to develop and having managers that other clubs take.

The difference is though Brighton and Brentford have access to a lot of data and analysis rather than just spotting a few gems in the rough grass. If they do get relegated they'll still have that
 
Leicester, 5th 5th 8th then relegated.. both players & fans will get overly hyped expectations & that could cause them issues..

Only the ultra monied clubs - if ran correctly - can survive & compete for the very highest places.. the rest needs to focus on tin pots with high league position & the odd euro adventure thrown in..

Paying - ridiculous - contracts to players is not the way to go..
 
Brighton have done brilliantly but it only takes the wrong managerial appointment and a few players to not perform and they’ll struggle. Their first couple of Premier League seasons were a battle for them.

Same for Brentford unfortunately. Toney leaves in the summer. If they don’t replace him well enough, then a few others start dropping off performance wise, they’ll have another season battling relegation. Especially if the promoted teams make a better fight of staying in the league.
