Brexit voters

Here are my thoughts Harry. I voted to leave the EU with the, flawed, understanding that we would remain in the single market and customs union. It was madness to leave those economic unions.

I voted to leave because I didn't like the way the EU was heading, looking towards closer and closer political ties and before and since the referendum the EU has touted, and wants an armed force. I was dead against this.

Once Johnson became leader of the conservative party, my initial reaction was "oh ****" and it has remained the case. I regret my vote. Not because I want to be a memberr of the EU, I don't, but because it allowed Johnson to snatch power and has resulted in the worst government in my lifetime. On the other hand, this too will pass.

I would say that us not being in the EU has had no impact on putin's decision to invade Ukraine nor does it have an impact on where he will go next.

One final thought, to echo mutleys post, Starmer cannot campaign on a rejoin agenda for the next election. Your manifesto promises have to be achievable in a single term. This clearly cannot happen. What he has said is he will look for closer ties to the EU, which is all he can promise.
Good post laughing, I'd go along with all that, apart from regretting my vote, which I havent one bit

The last line interests me mate .....why ?
Because "Bexit" as demonstrated on threads like this is toxic. You will never get those who voted to leave to publicly admit their error no matter the evidence based before them. You'll get soundbites like the current "Security, Prosperity and Respect" from Starmer and focus on the sins of the Tories. No need to scratch at the scars.

Here you go again with the 'I've been insulted' craic and looking for a rise out of people.
Oh do grow up Norman your first post was plainly a pop at ST, don't play the fool.

I do think we will rejoin but as Capy says it'll need the younger generation to make the difference.
I still don't know anyone other than bigots, self-interested isolationists and the stupid that actually voted for it.
None of my family and friends voted for it. Still can't believe it to this day.
I also disagree that re-joining would be a vote winner for Labour. Out there in the real world for the majority Brexit now just gets a groan.
People see bigger problems.
So I am stupid, a bigot, self interested and an isolationist, you can add a Gammon, racist, thick as mince. And Remainers are the nice people incase anyone forgets. And there is a tinge of being happy older people are dying.

This one member alone despised almost 14 million people in one message.

We know you are exasperated, we have known for almost 5 years and 9 months that you are, I believe you did mention previously if memorey serves me right. Now the best advice i can give you comes from that great modern day soothsayer Ebor I believe his words were something like “GIVE IT A REST”

Thank me later.
Interesting, isn’t it, that that’s the only defence of Brexit?
We have to stop talking about it because we all know how bad it is. It seems a strange thing for me, to just ignore something that is damaging our lives and country

I don't know you or the 14 million other people who voted leave. And I think you were stupid to vote leave.
You said the rest of it not me.

Nope not stupid.

Ah, a deleted post, I wonder why

This is the problem with political discussion there is always someone who spouts absolute rubbish and has to be abusive. This is why nothing will change.

Just telling the truth. I've still yet to have any Brexiteer tell me what the benefits have been. But had plenty who rue their decision. And nobody who voted stay wished they'd voted leave.

Her goes…… Again. I voted leave on the belief it would regain more control, sovereignty of decisions that affected the UK. Like laughing I did not like the movement to greater and greater integration. I felt every country was slowly losing its identity and the EU saw Britain as an irritant to its progress rather than the pragmatic influencer. I felt countries like France and Germany wanted to be the real power behind the movement and were more controlling rather than equal partners.

I thought the Norway or Canada style agreement was something everyone could buy into and enable trade to be relatively smooth. The real issue isn’t Brexit. It is the style of Brexit pursued. May was a terrible PM as she was more concerned about keeping the party together and kept fudging or avoiding decisions ‘the kicking of the can down the road’ analogy. I still felt concensus was achievable with goodwill all round.

My concern grew alarmingly as time went on and I felt the only real solution was to agree a second referendum on the actual agreement once all the dust had settled. Unfortunately May fell, Boris (who is actually more on the left of the party) allowed his bravado and ego to get in the way. He sneaked around the corridors of Westminster promising everything to everyone despite it couldn’t be delivered and got everyone to eventually railroad it through. I accept my vote played a part in where we arrived at, but hold the people who voted tory in 2019 more responsible, it is they that ensured the current government had the freedom to do as they wanted. Yes, I and everyone that voted brexit unlocked this pandora’s box we have currently. However, the people that opened it and let loose the mayhem that has actually followed were those voting for Johnson and his colleagues in blue in 2019. If the tories had not been elected we would more likely be in a Norway style agreement which would have far less issues and a calmer less divisive country.

I have done this to death. It is my opinion. I hope people whether they agree or disagree will respect it is was all in good faith, but i do feel it is a shambles thanks to Johnson and hope and would expect Muttley’s post above #29 to be the sensible meeting point under a Labour Government after 2024.

And to the OP I am more than pleased we have left. It's more than apparent it's not an EC but German and it's puppies.

The false data on Diesel engines, I e understating the issue by up to 1000% depending who you believe was a disgrace. Only actioned against by the despised US, all EC countries were told their loans would be called in.

Ask yourself why companies like Amazon have the UK as their hub, why there has not been flight out of London financial arena.

Personally I was 50 50 as I worked in Europe for 12 years, I became convinced the decision was right by nice people like zzzz.

& as ever always correct !!!!

I suppose that does make them bigots, self isolationist and stupid. Maybe you would have a decent argument if you left any abuse out and leave voters might actually entertain you.

Again, its your opinion
Not really, those sound like facts he’s observed to be honest.

As I said yesterday I’m genuinely exasperated by seeing that some people don’t regret voting Brexit. I know I won’t get this because I know it’s something they can’t answer, but I would dearly love to know what is going on in the heads of people who are still happy they voted Brexit? I would really love to know what it is they see. It gets worse and worse each day and yet some people are still proud of their vote. They don’t say why, which is a shame because I’d love to understand why they are happy they have done this to us
