AA are trying to increase my member to )29.97 a month.

Phoned up cancel it.

I am aware package bank accounts offer cover but I want European and uk cover with home start that the banks don’t offerz

Raise it to £29.97? You lucky barsteward. Is it covering a push-bike?:D

I think I'm paying about £30 this year. Previous years the companies just tried to jack it up to absurd amounts. I think RAC wanted £85. AA wanted over £100 IIRC. Greenflag almost as bad. You have to move every year. Loyalty = mug.

Never had to use breakdown cover though so who knows if they will even turn up when needed? Have my doubts.

Go on the comparison websites. The AA wanted £120 for basic roadside cover for 2 cars. Got it down to £52 per year with better cover.

I have joined nationwide flex plus

FlexPlus

Our packaged bank account. Get worldwide family travel and mobile phone insurance, plus UK and European breakdown cover. Conditions apply.
£13 monthly fee to maintain the account.
More about FlexPlus it seems a lot at first but for us oldies you have to pay additional premiums for the holiday insurance (depends on health history)but even with that it comes in for most less than companies such as 'all clear'

Something like £65 per year on green flag for the top cover minus European.
On the subject of European cover its sometimes cheaper to get a standalone policy for a couple of weeks than add it to your annual cover if it's just for one trip.

almost £30 a month! I thought that wa expensive it was £16 last year.

Just checked and I paid £71 last Sept for Green Flag. Originally got it through Money saving expert and have renewed it each year as discount is carried forward and know I'm getting a good price. It's full cover but doesn't use the app for recovery etc which I can live without!
UK / home start / full 90 day European cover
Fortunately never had to use them but nice to know it's there just in case.

I’m find it’s usually cheaper to tie it in with your insurance. The wife’s car works out an extra £6 a month for full RAC cover

I have Coop everyday extra account £15 pcm gives home and european breakdown cover (plus travel insurance worldwide and mobile phone cover) https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/packaged-bank-account/ and Nationwide is similar and only £13 pcm https://www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/flexplus/ The reason I went for Coop was because i'm 75 and travel cover is up to 80th birthday

The Coop equivalent packaged account for £15 pcm covers you for travel insurance up to 80th birthday

we bounce between AA and RAC. Usually when we ring and say its too much because we can get cashback with the other, they negotiate.

Be wary of some of the packaged bank accounts, sometimes theyre limited callouts. If its unlimited and its a decent provider its ok.

Also look into the other insurances - is the mobile phone new for old for example? Barclays used to have really good phone insurance but last time I used it I had to drive to the metro centre to get a repair done, and that failed, and the option available was to go again.

Having worked for a bank, they don't offer these for good will, theyre making good profit on them - £13-15 a month is £150-180 a year and you can usually find individual policies with better pay-outs for less, coupled with claiming cashback or negotiating the price lower.

AA £239/ year
Home start, roadside assistance for 2 cars

Every march they try to massively increase it and I pull them into line 😉

We are presently with Green Flag but do tend to flip from the AA and RAC. We also have European breakdown cover that we pay separately.

I pay £12 a month for Halifax Ultimate Reward account and you get the below:

I've used the breakdown cover twice and it's been excellent each time.
