Boxing Day Attendance

Yes, and Brighton in 2015 was also a full house and the atmosphere was as flat as they come.
FH - Nothing to play for in the 2015 game, we were in the play offs already and could not catch the top 2. Fans had bought tickets before they knew this.

Tickets left for the Wigan game - 638 (Only 10 in the South Stand) plus family section and corporates.

Exactly my point. Full house does not equal a great atmosphere.

If it turns out there's nothing riding on the match after all, as with Brighton, it's flat.

If you have to have an ST to get in, and today happens to be Wimbledon, it's flat.

If it's a big quarter final, but the crowd expects Cardiff to be a pushover, it's flat.

Great atmosphere comes from an intense hunger for the contest. Often this leads to a big crowd too, but the crowd size is the effect, not the cause.

The boxing day atmosphere is usually pretty good, but a little too hungover to be great.

Yeah can’t go along with that. Brighton was at from 30 mins before kick off until the final whistle.
Thats my experience and I stick with it. (y)
I thought the two come-back European Games were the best I`ve ever experienced since the Riverside opened.

STATS to show the boom in the Boxing Day fixture ...

How come some years there's not been a game on Boxing Day? Only game I remember been called off of late was at Blackburn

The winter of 1981 must have been bad to go that long without a league fixture?

Carlisle 4 seasons in-a-row ??? Ipswich away on Boxing Day .... what's that all about!!

When we've had a game we've had one away day at Burnley when we were back in the Prem since 2008/09 yet we went from 1988 until 1995 without a home Boxing Day game

Again both of those were dead first half…especially the Steaua game. The 2nd was different gravy mind.
I couldnt care less.
I enjoyed the whole experience.
This isnt a debate.
You wont change my opinion.
Thanks for letting me know yours.

The last 10 minutes of the Steau game was unreal. Nobody was sitting every Boro touch was cheered to the hilt. When the goal went in people were jumping over seats onto each other. There were even cheers for Ugos basketball defence.
If you don't believe me here's the proof.
Run it on to 85 min or watch the whole 2nd half.
That was longest I've stayed in the Riverside after a game I just didn't want to leave.

Another game which set the adrenaline flowing was that 3-3 against Liverpool.
Ravanelli hat-trick.
What a crackin match
