Boxing Day ashes 3 rd test at the MCG starts at 11pm

Would look at the players playing in the big bash and bring some in for the next test because that’s a disgrace

Yes I didn’t get that either

like that run made any different at all
Not that it made any significant difference but I'd bin our philosophy of not having a recognised WK in the team - if Buttler (or Bairstow) can't justify a place purely on their batting then bin them .....there again, most of the other so called batsman , Root excluded, could be given the heave-ho

England need to come up with a manager/coach who has a plan for 2 years time and the ECB need to back them

Use the intervening tests as experiments to see who can cope with test cricket, and go from there. You have to be brutal.

Would have done better with the 1 day or 20 20 teams
That worked really well when Jason Roy was used a test opener!

Like a rabbit in the headlights, averaged 19 over 5 tests and never played again.

Root, Stokes, Butler, Wood all part of the one day team.

I see where you're coming from NZB, but I suppose it comes down to what is more important, the Ashes or the World Test Cricket Championship.
With the test champs every series impacts on your chances of winning it and not sure if widespread experimentation over the next two years would help England's chances in the test champs.
However, I personally want us to stuff them every single time we play them in any sport, so you'll get no argument from me.

All out for 68.....a new low😕

Just fly the T20 squad out. I'm sure they could do better. I mean you'd at least have a decent skipper.

Jokes aside..... Its awful and pretty embarrassing. I imagine these matches are scaring many players. I'm suprised that nobody has 'walked' like Swann did. Just pack in during a tour. I can't believe it's doing any of them any good.

You really have to feel for the bowlers. They must look at those batters and think FFS. Hopefully this isn't Jimmy's send off. It's no way for him to go out.

This team is a disgrace. England too long has been a boys club, and the media panders to it. Anderson and broad dropped for the first test and everyone is up in arms. Frankly the bowling in not the problem.

too many players take too long to get dropped. The biggest travesty over the last few years is the quality of foakes not being in the side. Wasted him l. Best keeper by a mile and can score runs.

England have played a lot of cricket this year so I don’t think you can you around blaming preparation. Basic application shouldn’t need preparation.

mill never understand replacing burns with Crawley. Crawley needs to go away and rediscover his form before he gets back into test cricket l, if he ever gets back in again

the writing of a 5-0 was on the wall before a ball was bowled. Burns set the tone ala harmison with the first ball

I fully agree about Foakes. He is widely regarded in the cricket world as one of the best glovemen in the around(in terms of actual wicket keeping). I think he still has more stumpings than Butler despite hardly playing.

That said he's been injured plenty.

Butler gets the nod because of his batting ability. Unfortunately he's bang out of form. Although some of that is due to the fact he comes in with less than a 100 on the board and has to scratch around trying to stay in often against a new ball and fresh bowlers.

The whole thing is pretty shambolic. The bowlers can come home with some ounce of self respect after various decent efforts despite dropped catches and woeful batting.

Butler doesn’t do enough batting test cricket, he gets picked for his xfactor, but he doesn’t deliver an X factor performance often enough to be picked.

I was out there for the 2006-7 series. Even though England were poor and lost 5-0 then and Freddie Flintoff's captaincy was abject, at least the first three tests reached the fifth day. To lose the Melbourne Boxing Day test in less than 2 1/2 days is just horrendous.

What is to be done in my mind is to find, coach and reboot the whole approach. The top order is critical. I have never known an England test side with no test class openers.

Lack of preparation, which was a factor, is only a part of the issue. Thank goodness we weren't able to travel to watch it.

I agree. That was the main reason he's picked... Its his batting and not his keeping.

So if he's not performing as the x factor? It probably needs looking at.

To be honest he could just play white ball and franchise cricket as an opener and make a fortune. I'm sure some of these test / white ball cricketers maybe questioning carrying on at test level. That's probably half the problem.
