You can say whatever you like about England’s flat, often toothless bowling attack but what chance would any team in the world stand with such an utterly pathetic batting set up?

It really is all there to see Mr Root.

Save from Root’s customary contribution and the odd random flourish from an all rounder we have absolutely nothing.

Utterly shameful at this level.
