Very impressed some haven't heard before but saying that.Young players who are hungry to to succeed with tons of potential.Rather this than bring in has beens who have already peaked then dipped ex England players we where linked with. The players we have brought will hit the peak under Carrick.Things are finally turning at Boro we already had the facilities and fans ,but now we have Kieran Scott who can run the decision making on the footballing side of things where we failed bringing in a decent scout and recruitment network which needed sorting and has been .With a head coach who has learned from the best and is a very calming influence along with the back up of decent assistants. We have a great youth set up to call on everything is looking better than it has for a long time changes where needed so badly and fairplay its starting to look positive.

Agree with all that but having lost some key first team starters particularly Giles and Archer, we need some experienced loan signings to come in and add to the potential in these youngsters. What happens with Akpom is still a massive uncertainty hanging over us. Surely he has to sign a new contract to stay or we have to cash in now? Major risk to keep him and watch him walk out on a free at the end of the season if we don’t go up.

The question I keep asking myself, and admittedly I can be a bit of a critical guy at times, is do any of the 6 signing make a marked improvement on our best side from last season?

I’m not sure they do
We don’t know that.

What we do know is that they have been scouted thoroughly and the recruitment team, Scott, carrick and the rest have all deemed them good enough to play for us.

It’s all part of the excitement and gamble of football.

My general rule of thumb with six signings would be
2 players become first team starters and improve the team
2 players are ok but are not an improvement and are usually used as subs
2 players are hmmmm who scouted him???
hope I'm wrong and we get 4 that improve the team
I think ofbthe 6 only Dieng will start v Millwall.

After that Silvera and Rogers are the closest to playing I'd guess.

I don't think they do (bar Dieng) but those signings are to come. The ones we've signed now add to the squad and may improve the first team in the (hopefully near) future

There’s a bit of a question mark about Hoppe, is he going to be involved at all or was he just one that didn’t pay off? Is Coulson part of the first team picture now?

I don’t think any of them other than Dieng have been brought in to immediately improve the starting 11. We’ve heard from Kieron Scott that we’ve been actively increasing competition in the under 23’s over the last few years to challenge the best of our local academy players. That will hopefully mean more players like Hackney who are ready to make an immediate impact when they become too good for the under 23’s.

I expect 3 or 4 starting players to come in. One or two permanent and a couple of high quality loans.

I don’t see these as players who are going to get us promoted - we need players who either know this league or have played at a higher level.

Our best players last season still need either securing, or signing.
Akpom, Archer, Ramsey, Giles
It is interesting signing these 6 players, but nobody knows anything about them really. Scott signed an awful lot of players at Norwich...
I will get excited when the quality is signed, or confirmed as staying.

Carrick has already mentioned about the “balance” of the squad being important. IE. Bringing in slightly older and more experienced heads. He expects that to happen over the next 3-4 weeks.

Happy with the business so far. A few of them are longer term investments. Low risk purchases, hopefully with a decent chance of adding value over the coming seasons.

The next 3-4 weeks will be very interesting indeed.

Hopefully some of the talent we are bringing in early can get settled in and make a good contribution next season. However I think at this stage of the window, we almost have to sit tight until the PL teams do their business so they can identify who’s going out on loan. I think the higher end calibre of player won’t be released on loan until well into August, when teams know what what their squads are looking like.

That's the conundrum though isn't it? It's also a risk to cash in and end up being unable to replace him.

He could be the difference between promotion or not. Which is worth far more than any fee we'd get.

It's not an easy decision to make either way.

Loan signings will come, but we will have to wait till the big clubs sort their squads out, they usually do their business early but it will put their fringe squads and youth players lower down the pecking order

I expect thats our permanent signings about done. They are all with an eye to the future and hopefully making us a few quid. It's a sustainable buisness model. I'm glad we are doing it.

I imagine you'd only need 1 or 2 of them to become 'gems' and we are quids in.

To think we once spent 7mil each on Fletcher / Sav and Flint. The absolute opposite of a good buisness model. I'm sure they all pretty much left for nothing or 'nominal' (add Britt / Braithwaite etc to that long list).

I fully expect us to now bring in 2-3 senior players on loans. Loans don't effect FFP. Also prem squads are no where near finalised. So probably a waiting game. It may go until the end of August.

Young players don't win you promotion to the Premier League ... Merson, Townsend, Maddison, Gascoigne, Hignett, Branca, Pearson they do help though with regards to pace in the team
