Boro move to Digital Ticketing 🎟️

I couldnt care what you`ve got - you arent everyone - neither am I.
Dont make assumptions because you`re alright, then everyone else should be.
I possess a Nokia 3310 and it runs on gas.
Are you telling me I should be prepared to be excluded because I dont posses what you do?
Or should I shell out £££££ just to get into the Riverside twice a fortnight?
Are you OK??
Who said I was alright?

You've answered a completely different point. I was responding to one about speed getting through a barrier. I live in London. I encounter barriers with people ahead fiddling with their smartphones on a daily basis. It's not quicker.
There can be short delays at the barrier, but I remember when I first went to London on the 90s I had to queue for a ticket machine or ticket booth to buy a ticket first before going to the turnstile to put the ticket into, and had to know which zones I'd be going to.

Why don't you wait - there are going to be Open Days - Try Before You Switch sessions. etc Just like when we came back to the club when under covid restrictions. If your battery died you will still be able to get in. Just like now if you turn up and your card doesn't work or you reach in your pocket and you have forgotten it. And it was said to me that the club know those that don't use internet - they will contact those people by letter. But this won't initially only effect new buyers. It could be one turnstile or block at a time after that. But it will be gradual. And bottom line is everyone will be able to get in. There is no way they want to stop anyone seeing the match.

I don't think they're deliberately trying to exclude anyway, they're not daft, I just think they've announced a major change poorly and in an incomplete manner

Most of the reassurance is coming 2nd hand from yourself, and I think you're doing a great job with it, but it's reassurance to a narrow section of the fanbase.

If the club can ring you and inform you about it all, they can release it on the website.

I'll probably be speaking to one of the people it'll impact today, and I'll be sure to pass on what you've said after I tell him that they're introducing it to begin with.

"alright" - possess the technology (y)
I was talking about what I did for my parents, on the minimum budget possible. You can get a SIM card for £4/month with 12GB data etc... Someone with little money might find this invaluable to get them online.

Obviously this can't be done if you have absolutely ZERO money.

It absolutely does not.
But it does. It says 'will keep fans fully informed in advance of changes to their requirements'

Until the full change happens, along with details and information of what they plan for us to need the use of, then it's a wait and see.

More information will be announced and stated on the website. And no doubt that announcement will include everything we will need to know with regards to the change, including alternative methods if some fans don't have the use of smartphones/technology etc.

It could be that your friends part of the stadium will remain the same until the end of the year. It is not going to be everywhere over night. They know that lots of people do not have smart phones, although those percentages are dropping and dropping. But they want to get as many of us as possible behind this and will start rolling out more advice soon - they do not want to swamp people and worry them more. I think there will be an open day announced soon where people can try it all out. The stewards at the turnstiles will be trained and on hand to help. I am telling you all this and I hate using self-serve tills and don't pay for stuff on my phone. But I feel reassured that this will be less difficult to do than the change from using an old fashioned turnstile to scanning myself.

From a personal perspective, this is a very welcome move by MFC. My Season Card is one of the few things I physically have to carry around these days, but pretty much everything else is on my phone (gig tickets/railcard/train tickets/credit card/banking, etc). Over the past month I have been to Glastonbury and had a weekend in London and spent literally zero cash in the process. I personally find paying for things by Apple Pay more convenient and easier to keep track of what I'm spending (too much usually!).

Not having to wonder where my Season Card is every couple of weeks will be a positive outcome for me, but I appreciate that not everyone is able or willing to adapt to a digital society. I'm sure though that MFC will not exclude anyone and for the minority that can't or won't use the new system, alternatives will be available. But for the growing majority that live their lives via their smartphone, this will be seen as a good move by the club.

I empathise entirely with those that feel anxious about the ever changing world around us, although at the same time I find it mildly ironic that they are using an online platform to express such anxiety.

I was just trying to add a bit of context in relation to all the other 'gadgets' people have, but somehow a smartphone is a step too far.
TV services, broadband etc.. cost money every month.
You are correct, it is another monthly outgoing and it's £8/month for all the data/text/minutes that they could ever use. To say they've had their eyes opened is an understatement as they are the most un-techy people ever. They must be the only people I know that don't have broadband/internet at home!

Season ticket holder I know has no smartphone, no computer, no email, no internet, only basic terrestial tv channels so no sky, virgin, or freeview. He has followed Boro for 50 years and has managed alright so far with out entering the digital world.

No it doesn't. And I've given an example in a previous post of keeping fans full informed that doesn't do what you say it does.

I reckon 90% people access this forum though their mobile devices so to be honest all you have to do to access your digital season ticket is open your Google wallet not rocket science
That may be true but although I am one of that 90% given the option I will stick with my season card.

It’s fairly clear they will still give the option for supporters to use paper tickets for a while yet. But it’s not just football, even now people will struggle to do most things without a smart phone, in 5/10 years it will likely be impossible. It’s just moving forward with the tech available
But its should not be. Where does freedom of choice above greed come into this. Everything is for the benefit of the companies not the customers.

Thats fine.
But to use 12GB of "Data" - you need the tech to use it [ie Smartphone / iphone].
Me and many others dont have these.
For example, my loveable Nokia 3310 accepts texts and telephone calls.
It accepts voicemail and has the snake game.
You can drop it and it bounces without breaking.
It can be charged on Monday, left switched on 24 hours and still be OK on Friday.
It receives signals in places where smartphones fear to tread.
If you get mischievous - it can be dropped in a pint of Carling, put on the radiator and allowed to dry - and work fine next morning.
It has a mono screen the size of a large postage stamp.
It has a wonderful array of ringtones:

..........but it doesnt use "data......it doesnt convert links or apps.
A smiley face and emoji`s display as a square

It wouldnt matter if I could get 100GB data a month - its no good on my tech.
Why should I have to buy a "smart"[?] phone when my little Nokia does what I want it to?
Boro, like any other business - need to cater for everyone.(y)

It's right there in black and white.

While I admire the fact you have maintained a Nokia 3310 for nearly 25 years, the fact is it's 2023 and you are incredibly in the minority and as such, the onus is on you to keep up with relevant technology.

Your posts in this thread smack of someone being stubborn just for the sake of it.
