Boro Fan - 3 Year Ban

I have never called the opposition fans f---ing w---ers, nor invited them for a fight. Some chants are funny, but we're not talking about such stuff. You and others here are trying to pile all these extra, imagined, what-ifs onto the situation in order to make what the guy did ok. It's not.
I'm not imagining folks who make hand gestures being addicted to cocaine and will one day enter the field of play and headbutt a player.

I'm saying it's over the top. It's inappropriate and should be rescinded. Some chants are funny.. unfortunately that is very much subjective.

I find groups of middle aged men pogoing in cp company jackets being called vvankers very funny indeed

and what will be done about the makem fans whose chants are far far worse, absolutely nothing.
I agree, it’s disgraceful that they will get away with it en-mass.. altho it still doesn’t make what the fans mentioned earlier right though.

I would like to think if anything goes on outside the ground it will be picked up on and dealt with but clearly will depend on Police numbers as to how effective that will be ..

I remember years ago my mate and his elderly dad walking up dockside road with an idiot mackem goading them with vile chants. Just beggars belief that people have a mindset that they think that is acceptable or even close to being banter. I always think of that pr1ck every time Sunderland get relegated and raise a smile that he will be suffering

"Everybody does it so it's OK"
Like speeding. Still against the law and wrong. Get caught get punished.
No place for it. Why should a football stadium act as a conduit for abuse and violence....... just because it's done a lot?
Speeding is against the law and wrong? Have you watched F1?

No place for it?

In what other walk of life to people get chanted at? Cheered on? or made fun of?
Women and children? What are you talking about? What would it be different for a woman to watch the football or support their team?
The football is an adult setting, would it be acceptable to take your kids to the pub? the bookies? To see a film rated above PG?
Lets not pretend that the football is some toddlers tea party.. because it isn't. The fans, clubs and sponsors know this.
Does it do anything for the atmosphere? VERY MUCH SO YES!
Is it against the law? NO it isn't. Taken out of context it can be seen to be problematic.. but as I said it requires a lot of naivety and a lack of knowledge to make that be the case.
Wrong again. Woman and children do go to the game and why shouldn't they?

You think calling someone a F in W and threatening violence adds to the atmosphere?
Pretty much explains why you think it's OK.

WTF has the pub, the bookies or a film got to do with it? Nothing. Nothing at all. It's a football game.
Who said it's a 'toddlers tea party'? Again.... what's that got to do with it? Bit silly that tbh.

Yes IT IS against the law to threaten someone with violence.
There is no 'context' in threatening violence.... just threatening violence.

i suppose that the crux, did they threaten violence or did they just call them F***ing *******. Either way its steve gibsons fault making the game incendiary;)

Do you know what an atmosphere is? Folks are talking about shutting down chanting, songs and hand gestures. I think fans and players have been refered to as vvankers for many reasons.. very much part of our culture and the game. Threatening violence would be an ideal reason for calling someone a vvanker.

The pub: Have you been in the concourse? Have you seen the outdoor bar area? Where do most people meet up or go to afterwards?

The bookies: Have you been in the concourse? Have you seen the betting kiosks? Have you seen the illuminated advertisements? The huge flat screen televisions? The front of our football shirts?

Nothing? Got your head in the clouds or up your backside by the sound of it.

Yes IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO THREATEN SOMEONE WITH VIOLENCE - it shouldnt be for making fun of them.

F1 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

That hole's getting so big you'll not get out of it.
There's a time and a place for certain things, some people have a drink at the football. I wouldn't suggest it was appropriate to do so whilst driving.
THERES NO PLACE FOR ANYTHING, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE ILLIGAL, LOCK EVERONE UP FOR EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING IS AN EXTREME AND WE SHOULD EXAGERATE ANY AND ALL MADE UP FUTURE POSSIBILITIES NO MATTER HOW FAR FATCHED OR UNLIKELY THEY ARE.

You could arrest half the kids at school if using the word "******" is a crime. Would you ring the police and waste their time if someone called your wife a nasty name. The offences were misdeameaner
at best by all means arrest them if they goto or engage in violence, but lets not waste the courts time with minor verbal abuse between opposition supporters.
Do you actually know what these people were arrested for. It wasn’t for calling people a nasty name

I think they should get the Derby fans on the stand and prove to a jury that they are not vvankers or a bunch of chunts or whatever insult was directed at them.

You don’t comprehend English well do you?

Someone who is more likely doesn’t mean they will do it. I’ll repeat, Someone who is complicit in anti social behaviour is more likely to complicit in other an social behaviour

It's you that is trying to make comaprisons with pubs, bookies and a PG film (WTF!) and none are relevant.
Its a football game FFS and in any event is it accpetable to abuse and make threats in any context? No.
It wasn't 'making fun' at all. he was convicted of using Threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour. He broke the law.
He was 'offering a fight'. No matter how much you try (unsuccessfully) to trivialse it, those are the facts.
And he admitted it.
i repeat.... it's not acceptable anywhere. FULL STOP.

Sorry I don't understand English.. you're right. Someone making a vvanker gesture at the football will be more likely to take cocaine and enter the field of play to headbutt a player. I'M THE IDIOT HERE. You're right my apologies. (makes vvanker gesture)

Well it pretty obvious isn’t it

There are bars at the football, there are betting kiosks at the football, the game is a full contact sport and coarse language is sometimes used.
It's not a PG setting. There is a difference between a chant and football related go betweens and one to one threats of violence. There is a difference, it is different.

One is part pantomime, part punch and judy.. out of context it is a criminal activity. Don't try and pretend there is no difference.
