Bookies have written off Barca

Just my opinion, but really did you see him try to get the team moving or take charge on the pitch, he didn't even (that I noticed) talk to the referee. He did wave his arms around at one point when he was fouled to be fair. I don't want to get into the old Ronaldo v Messi thing again but Ronaldo wouldn't have been as invisible. He was hiding on the pitch. When at his best he always appears to be in space and available to take the ball, last night he was uninvolved. Now whether that is a symptom of his lack of belief in the coach and the political goings on at Barca I have no way of knowing but he did not do any "captaining" last night.

I don't expect him to save them against a team like Bayern but he did not perform well and absolutely should be criticised along with the rest of the team for it.

The disrespect I have seen given to Messi since last night allover social media is incredible. The man has carried that team for years and without him they wouldn’t be competing for leagues or getting to knockout stages. If you play a team who are good allover the pitch like Bayern where they have quality and are young pacy and powerful of course it’s gonna be difficult for him when he is the only Who ever remotely creates anything. He had one off night and the media and social media couldn’t wait to jump down his throat. He never tracked back for one of the goals wow. Ter Stegen and Semedo were about a million times worse through out the match but Messi is the headline as usual.

Suppose haters gonna hate but the man is a magician and it is sad to see him playing in a poor team, if they don’t sort themselves out this summer I would like him to leave. He is the Greatest footballer we will ever see in my opinion. End of rant

By the same logic Ronaldo just lost to a mid table French side but rightly he doesnt seem to be taking the blame

Some of the comments about Messi on here I find odd. He’s not going to run around putting tackles in or yelling at team mates. If that’s what was wanted from a captain, then someone else should be captain.

How he’s getting so much criticism is strange, the midfield were non existent in that game and completely out played. Messi now needs movement and players making runs around him, they had none of that last night. Often Alba from the left back was the only player trying to get in behind the Bayern defence.

There's not a player in the squad who would yell at teammates. The problem is the structure of squads in Spain, the sad reality is people like Messi, Pique, Suarez et al are above being yelled at such is the player power at the club, anyone who upset either of them would be out of the door very fast, that's hindered their recruitment in recent years as many times Messi has the last say on which players come in, him and Suarez were dead against Griezmann coming in so it's no surprise neither of them have developed any understanding with him and he's been a total flop.

That might be something to do with him scoring twice, they won the game and only went out on away goals over two legs? Hardly the same as an 8-2 thrashing (and actually pretty well demonstrates the point I was making).

This should not tarnish his legend. GOAT or not, all players fade, some adjust to a new way of influencing a game from a more static role. Perhaps Messi will, maybe he won't? He's probably one of the most fouled players in world football and pretty much everything about the way he plays the game is admirable. But last night he was guilty of "phoning it in".

Didn't think I would be bothered but looking forward to watching City tonight, an on-form City might be the only team between Bayern and the trophy. Absent fans or not this is actually a pretty good way of ending the season.

There are some absolute clowns commenting on this thread in regards to Messi.

Can definitely tell the football fans and the idiots.
