Had my blood pressure took at hospital few days back and it was 165/103 pretty high, I shat myself to be fair, bought myself a blood pressure monitor on the doctors instruction and now my readings are usually 128/87 etc .

Yes I have it. When I go to my GPS they do mine then leave it a minute and do it again. 1st is always high then settles and the 2nd is fine. BP goes up because you are worried its going to be high.
More common than you think. When I was CPN I used to do obs on a regular basis. Many patients had white coat syndrome.

Mine was raised when i went for a Blood pressure medication review. The nurse asked me to keep a log of it for a few days to see if it was an anomaly... when i provided her the results i handed over a pretty consistent list of normal measurements. which was remarkable in a way because one of the results was taken off the machine in the hospital whilst i was in the middle of a colonoscopy. lol

Your right on the cusp with those regular readings change your diet and excise more otherwise you will end up on tablets

It's never really bothered me when I was younger, but since turning 40 around 15 years ago now 😂 I have had quite severe health anxiety and worries. Not really thought too much more into until recently, it's crazy how anxiety can affect you so physically aswell as mentally.

It's not that uncommon; my Dad's just the same.
They may offer you ambulatory blood pressure (a constant monitoring of your BP for a day or two) to assess what is normal for you.

Took mine randomly a couple of years ago and it was through the roof 210 over 180 or summat, assumed the machine was bust and bought another. I’m fit healthy, not overweight and have a good diet (apart from the wine) saw the doc, got tablets and now average mid 130’s over high 70’s. What I’d say is when you take it with your own monitor do it in a quiet room on your own, chill and ignore the first couple of readings. It’s never bothered me in the slightest and I’m fine to do whatever.

I went once for a medical at work and mine was similar. They insisted on me going every week for a follow up test. As soon as I walked into the med centre I could feel the tension build inside me.
After a few weeks I told them I wasn't going for any more as it was stressing me out.

I hate having blood pressure test, hate the feeling if the thing tightening round my arm and am sure that doesn’t help the reading given. Always has to be done twice.

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 20 years ago. Doctor told me he didnt know how I wasnt having a stroke, stop going to the gym and not to put my hands above my head. This has now resulted in me getting anxious before going to the doctors. I have to have regular checks as I am also diabetic, the nurse has t retest me up to six times before I get a reading that is acceptable. I find it ridiculous as any test will eventually give a positive reading. I am on medication to manage the condition but I have to take an assortment of different drugs.

I had a home blood pressure test thing and it was giving me high readings. I went to the doctor and it was perfectly normal. Even my blood pressure is contrary.

When you take your blood pressure always make sure you sit down and relax for 5 minutes before you take it as walking before hand will increase your heartbeat and thus increase your blood pressure.

Don't have a hot drink before taking, don't talk if someone is taking it for you. Don't exercise 30 minutes before. The monitors for using on hands and wrists give diffeent readings to the upper arm monitors

Mine was averaging 165/95 at readings and I got a constant monitor and it was 115/85 - actually below normal and I over 60 and over weight. BP goes up with age and weight. My pulse is only around 50, but when they go on about my BP too high they are never interested in the pulse. No one I ask seems to understand if there is correlation between pulse and BP. Normal pulse is supposed to be 70 and normal BP 120/80 and that is what is programmed in. One nurse did say the lower your pulse the longer you live. However I don't think the medical professionals understand the tolerances of BP for different people. For example - it does seem different to body temperature where everyone is within 2 or 3% the same.

I often wonder how realistic a blood pressure reading is when someone has to relax for 5 - 10 minutes to take it. If you don't live in that relaxed state is it then just a picture in time that is engineered?

Similarly if you get anxiety it is falsely elevated, are you kidding yourself if you're falsely relaxed?
