Blackpool Covid and Injuries

Also read Klopp saying he’d have no problem with playing on the 26th and 29th, just not the 26th and 28th. But earlier in the season he was ranting about playing on the Wednesday night and Saturday lunchtime. I think a BT interviewer pressed him on it and he lost his rag. It’s just nonsense really.

It’s a good job Bruce Rioch didn’t show the same attitude as some of these current managers and coaches in 1986. We’d have never had a game on.

Very interesting - Middlesbrough have certainly been extremely strict with COVID protocols and Chris Wilder alludes to this in the press conference today but there has to be an element of luck also. Got to feel sympathy for AFC Wimbledon though.

Also when Lennie’s Lions went up in 1991/92, cup runs meant we had to play a dozen league games 5 or so weeks.

Lennie was really skilful in the way he rearranged matches. He took a very active part in the process and looked closely at getting a run of home games and picking up momentum in the run in.

That’s fine though, I think the issue is managers moaning about having to play. Lennie played his strongest sides in the cups because he wanted to win one of them. It was a tough season but I don’t remember him being vocal about his team having to play football matches. I was a young lad at the time so may not have picked up on it but haven’t read anything from him at that time that came from a negative attitude towards playing games.

When Everton had their game postponed the other day, they cited Covid cases and injuries. Eddie Howe has now joined the list of people having a whinge about not being able to field a team. Premier League clubs with academies and U23 teams that complete in the Papa Johns Trophy get no sympathy from me; they will be able to field a team but they don't want to.

I agree with other posters, it shouldn't be allowed, Covid cases should be the only thing considered and if I was Gibson, I'd be furious and would contest any postponements where injuries or suspensions are cited.

Oh no you are right. In fact the Barnsley home game was abandoned even though Mbro tried to play on. Lennie was canny enough to work to rearrange the games in such a way us to help us build momentum.

6-7 injured or suspended. So that's irrelevant in the process of calling a game off for covid.

The idea is to stop infection. So if they have even 5 or so covid cases they still must have enough available? U23s or lower can play without being registered in the 25.

If its genuinely 10 out with covid or they can't train then fine.... No issues. It just doesn't sound like it's the case as he's banging on about injuries.

All the professional teams in the premiership and football league have players in the under 21's and under 18's right?

Why can't teams use them to make the numbers up?

14 players including a goalkeeper available from registered squad list, along with 'Under 21 players not on the squad list but who have played one League match, or any other contracted player not on the squad list but otherwise would have been eligible to play.

I wonder how many under 21s have played a first team game
