bittersweet - Matt Vickers

Unfortunately with the removal of Thornaby from the ward that was always going to leave an uphill struggle with yarm, eaglescliffe and Ingleby. We all saw how many houchen banners they had out.

These boundary changes did exactly what they were supposed to do.
Plenty in IB thinking they have made it by voting tory.

One of my neighbours puts tory leaflets through the door every campaign, he works for stockon council and his daughters a teacher. How could you vote Tory knowing first hand the decimation to public services. What an absolute clown

Tons on the IB noticeboard as well on Facebook.

Classic case of where greens and Lib Dem voters should have voted tactically as realistically they were never going to win here.

Vickers is isolated in a red wall. Houchen will be concerned that an independent investigation is on the horizon and he only has one ally in the area.
To be fair, he has two. Sunak's constituency stretches as far as Great Ayton, Hutton Rudby and Stokesley.

I don't think the boundary changes helped but Labour have been losing support in Thornaby for a while. All the polls and MRPs had it as quite a comfortable Labour victory so something has happened. Maybe the suggestion he was a parachuted in candidate (despite being from round here originally) cut through more than expected. Some voting for Greens and LDs as well maybe where people thought it would be a comfortable Labour victory based on the polls.
