Losing to Seville because reaching that final was the pinnacle of Middlesbrough's entire history.
Winning the league cup was special, but reaching a European Cup final was something extraordinary, something less than 20 other different English league clubs have ever done. If we'd have won it we would have become part of an even smaller very select few of English clubs who've tasted euro glory, we'd have also beaten the mackems and skunks to a major Euro honour (Fairs cup don't count, sorry Newcastle), went on to play Barcelona in the European Super Cup, and qualified for a third season in Europe.
When I left the stadium that day I knew I'd never witness my team reach those heights again. But what a journey!
